Default 2013 VIC (or rather, PNW) track day schedule

2013 track day schedule for the PNW!

Not sure about you guys but with this lacking winter (at least for me ), and parts on order.. I can't wait for Spring.... so without further ado.. (pretty early but at least those with projects can have a sense of urgency )

I encourage you guys to try a track day! We're lucky to have some really fun tracks within a few hours of us. This thread is strictly for track days. For auto-x related, do visit VCMC's forum and UBCSCC's forum.

Here are the tracks available in the PNW.

Mission Raceway Park http://www.missionraceway.com/
Pacific Raceways http://www.pacificraceways.com/Index.aspx
Portland International Raceway http://www.portlandraceway.com/
Bremerton Raceway http://www.bremertonraceway.com/
Oregon Raceway Park http://oregonraceway.com/
Ridge Motorsport Park http://www.ridgemotorsportspark.com/

The furthest is ORP. Roughly about 6-7 hrs away.

So, how does it work? A respective car club will host an event at X track. Some clubs may require membership, some may not. Some memberships can be used for most clubs (ie PCA). This is your first step. Here are the most common clubs that run track days:

Alfa club: nwalfaclub.com/track_events.html
BMW club: http://www.bmwpugetsound.com/
PCA PNWR: www.pnwr.org/
PCA Oregon: http://www.oregonpca.org/
Turn2 Lapping: http://www.turn2lapping.com
VCMC: http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/showthread....edule-for-2012
Performance Drivers Club (PDC): http://performancedriversclub.org/
UBCSCC: http://www.ubcscc.com/racing/track-days/

All clubs above welcome all makes and models to attend their lapping days. Concerning membership though, please check. Some may or may not require a membership to participate.

You can then sign up for your desired event here: www.motorsportreg.com with the exception of PDC where you will need to navigate their site. So create an account! I actually copy and pasted the list of events in the PNW from there onto this thread (note: PCA Oregon has cancelled all their HPDE events with the exception of their April 15 PIR event ..)

An alternative to club hosted track days is Proformance Racing open lapping days at Pacific Raceways. A little bit pricier, but once you've been signed off to drive solo, you can lap to your hearts content (in other words, til you get bored or run out of brakes ) http://www.proformanceracingschool.com/schedule

I have a feeling Turn2 may be similar however I did not participate in any of their events last year- if someone could confirm I can update

No problemo! I thankfully have more free time this year so I'm hoping to see more BC plates down south

We can use this thread to coordinate events we can all attend together etc..

Generally speaking, the atmosphere is very relaxed and people are friendly.

I only got to use em once man. LOL! I was sent pretty much new tires.. they were great! Can't wait to use it again this season!

R6s won't last as long so I've heard.. You should try A6's for HPDEs.. haha. I know people use them for maximum grip for you know.. timing

I corded mine already. Need more grip!

Yeah heard about the r6's not lasting as long. But next conti size up I think is 305/650/18. A little too wide for my fenders.

LOL a6 hahahaha. U warm up the tires on the out lap then 2nd lap around you run into traffic, 3rd lap u think you'll get a clean lap but they already over heated haha

i liked the NT05s when i used them; however try out the hankook RS3 or new starspecs Even faster tire.. but stay on street tires as long as possible. that's how you learn with all the feedback

heck- i should still be on street tires!

holy crap. really.

If you ran a flare up front, could you fit it? The LIC rear has the same clearance as Karlton's right? I know Karlton ran 315s no prob.. BUT i have no f'n clue what the hell the 650 means.

Yah that's the problem with HPDEs.. unless you go to open lapping and sign up for the even faster group. haha.

Yeah I could fit it with flare or modify the fender (cut and weld). Rear has less clearance than karlton. 295/305 max. Could go bigger and play with the offset but I'll run into strut clearance problems. I like using the camber bolt for more camber instead of the camber plate b/c of better suspension geometry.

Have to play around with it I guess.

Turn2 is not bad for lapping. Probably the best. Passing on left and right and in the corners. Passing on the inside on turn 2 is a rush hahaha.

I've always wanted to track my car because it looks like a lot of fun to get out there and try something new and meet new people. The only problem is my 04 WRX is bone stock. Is this a problem? Or do other people track there cars stock?

Not a problem! Quick check of brakes and tires, flush brake fluid, check oil, etc you're good to go!

Some grandmas in Volvo's out there! Sometimes you wish they weren't there but good on them! Lol

Here's more specific info from VCMC's site about track day prep for Mission: http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/showthread....t-the-trackday

FWIW I read lots of "lessons learned" feedback about brakes/tires, braking style, etc. before going to my first few track days because I wanted to be super prepared. This can be a distraction from the most important and useful advice you can get - which is almost always from the experienced instructor sitting next to you!

Accommodations

Pacific Raceways

BEST WESTERN PLUS Peppertree Auburn Inn - Auburn, WA
401, 8th Street SW, Auburn, WA 98001-5901
Auburn Toll Free Reservations: 253-887-7600
Auburn Tel: 253-887-7600 Auburn Fax: 253-887-7676

Proformance Racing School has a Corporate Account with these guys. Mention their name and it's $89 a night with complimentary breakfast.

Cedars Inn Auburn
102 15th Street Northeast
Auburn, WA 98002
[email protected]
Phone: (253) 833-8007
Toll Free: (866) 833-8007
Fax: (253) 931-1113

Cedars Inn is like half the price of Best Western but you don't get breakfast and I would say it is more like a motel instead of a hotel. Not that clean and parking not as secure as the Best Western.

Food nearby both hotels and is like a 10 minute drive to the track.

The Ridge Motorsports Park

Little Creek Casino Resort
91 West State Route 108
Shelton, WA 98584
1-800-667-7711

Ask for the "Ridge" discount. Sunday-Thursday $69 a night and Friday-Saturday is $79 a night.

Alderbrook Resort & Spa
7101 E State Highway 106
Union, Washington 98592
(360) 898-2145

Pretty expensive like $130+ a night but it's what you would expect from a resort and spa with a view.
