Unhappy Decelerating noise

Whenever I am slowing down for a stop light (car is in neutral and I am on the brakes, *lightly or hard*) my car feels like something is grinding.

It doesnt really make any sounds except like a road noise sound...And in the brake pedal it feels like there is a slight vibration as well (at the same time).

my suspension mods:

version 5 struts, eibach springs and 20mm sway bar, as well as 205/55/16 falken azenis tires

Thanks!

Possibles (assuming it's the brakes):

Dust build up on rotors and pads. Have them cleaned

DTV, disk thickness variation. Have rotor turned

Or maybe both.

You can try cleaning yourself, you can buy "Brake Cleaner" at any auto store.

The turning part needs to be done by a pro.

Any NVH through the steering wheel?

I feel nothing in my steering wheel when I brake.

The car has 27.5k miles on it and about 35 autocrosses under its belt, and still has the stock brakes (I have had the car for a little over a year).

Ok, well what you described is basically the arch-typical symptons of DTV (which can be caused by just dust built up).

But, with you mileage and auto-x background I would just check the pad thickness.

Are any of the rotor badly grooved?

The pads are a little over halfway worn and the rotors have no grooves, last time I checked.

So I should just go to a brake place and have the rotors turned? Or should I wait till my 30k mile service??

thanks!

I think your OK for now, but if you start feeling it through the steering wheel or it gets worse. Then have it checked out.

But, like I said. Go buy some Brake Cleaner and give the rotors a shot. It's just an aresol can. Or get a high pressure air hose and blast the rotors. You can also go find a safe place and get a few hard stops from moderate speeds, like 35MPH.

AGAIN ASSUMING IT IS THE BRAKES . But I'd bet on the brakes.

It may, I repeat may, be something setting off the ABS. Like bad tires But I doubt it.

How would the tires be bad?, Like flat spotted you mean?
They are about 4 months old...

I just know when I get the money (soon) I will be replacing pads, ss lines and getting better dot4 fluid (right now I have NAPA brand CRAP dot4).

THANKS!!

Just that one tire (for whatever reason) is locking up a bit. But like I said I doubt this is an issue.

Please go read this thread (in-full) it will give you a great background on brakes:

Default Sound decelerating in 2th, 3rd & 4th

I have 2015 STI with barely 16K miles, but has an increasingly sound when decelerating has being increasing. It started on 3rd, then 4th and now 2nd, and increasing over time.

If you engage or not the clutch while moving it sounds. If you are between 1.8K-3K RPM it sounds.

Recently I did the clutch (ACT Xtreme Duty 6-Puck Disc Clutch Kit), change fluids from all differentials and transmission and a Kartboy Short Shifter. Reason why I thought at the beginning that was a normal noise due to the changes.

Here a small video so you can check: https://youtu.be/m3BedcmmsWU
