When: Monday, March 24
What: Valve cover gaskets, radiator hoses, compression/leakdown test, oil change, plugs, installed the polyurethane exhaust hangers that I couldn't manage (that I was literally going to throw in the god damn river because I couldn't get them on. It took Tom like 10 minutes), and investigation into the MILLIONS of leaks that my car has sprung.
Rating: 5/5
Recommended: Definitely

I couldn't be happier with the service I got from Wicked on Monday (and in emails leading up to the service). I communicated mostly with Tom via email to plan out the work and then mostly with on the day of the work.

They were courteous, they explained anything I wanted to know about, and most of all I felt like they gave a crap. I could tell he wasn't just telling me what I wanted to hear or (worse) telling me what will cost me more money. This is made more impressive by the fact that the work was all maintenance on a 10 year old wrx. Not once did I feel like I was wasting their time because I didn't bring in a 400hp monster for an engine rebuild, nor was I made to feel stupid for not knowing something (this was not the case when getting quotes from other places) BTW, pro-tip: if you don't know something, it's ok to say "I don't know what that is, can you explain that?" You're going to learn something and that goes doubly true when talking to the guys at wicked.

They let me bring my own parts (they were all new and I accept the responsibility for the parts I bring) and were really understanding of the fact that money is tight. They're helping me plan the next steps to get the car in good, safe condition and even made me a list including the parts that I could do myself to save some cash.

I was there pretty much the whole day, starting at 10am and I think I left at about 4:30 all said and done. A lot of that was helpful conversation that I wasn't even charged for.

I had never seen the R.I. shop, so I can't make a comparison, but the waiting area wasn't too bad. I brought all kinds of entertainment in case I got bored but it wasn't necessary because they have a Roku and I just streamed movies all day!

Next steps? I'll be trying to find time to come in for a street tune (because I'm an impulsive moron and bought an Access Port because ANOTHER TUNER told that was the only way they'd tune a car as old as mine and I assumed that would be true of all places. I'll probably get the open source tune from Matt and sell my AP at a bargain price) and trying to decide if I want to do my own fuel pump and power steering pump.

Thanks again, Jay and Tom!

I had some RCE black springs put on the other day at Wicked. These guys were great about getting me in and out in a timely matter. Install was perfect. They had a wealth of knowledge about my car, and were truly nice guys to deal with. I look forward to going back for more things as my budget permits. I'm glad I found a shop that does good work and has people you can trust. This is definitely that place!

Thanks!

What: My GC had it's entire transmission, drivetrain, sub-frame, brakes, etc. removed and replaced with V7 STi parts. ST Coilovers, Whiteline front sway bar, end links, etc. were all thrown on as well. These guys did an AWESOME job, I couldn't be more satisfied.

Definitely, 100%, recommend to ANYONE that wants work done on their cars. These guys are professionals, courteous, and know what they're doing.

What: Uppipe install with EWG + Tune.

Great experience as always. Tom was extremely accommodating to my busy schedule. I couldn't have been happier with the work that was performed both with the install and tune. While driving up to NH, I was averaging about 20mpg highway, after the tune from Matt I was getting an average of 33mpg. I will continue to make the 4 hour round trip to continue doing business with these guys.

I highly recommend Wicked Innovation to all!

That sounds like an absolute freak of nature motor, or you are exaggerating. I've been on a M@ tune for 2+ years and I'm lucky to average 25mpg. More in the range of 21-23 with a combined average of highway and local. Even on straight long drives where i blow through an entire tank, 26mpg.

If it's an STI with si drive there is a way for Matt to tune it for that kind of gas mileage or close.

Just got my Forester XT back from Wicked this past weekend.

I can't stress enough how great these guys are to work with. I showed up with mostly my own parts to do a 6 speed swap, and they had no problem accommodating when I showed up with a few extras. When it turned out I also had a roasted wheel bearing, and even when the brakes they were installing locked up, they managed to get a fresh set of 4 pot fronts in, and on in less than 24 hours.

Their ability to be incredibly flexible, and still turn out top notch work consistently impresses me.

For reference, they did a built motor and VF39 with a laundry list of supporting mods last time, and this time all I really asked for was a 6 speed swap and accompanying 4/2pot install for the R180, but they managed to also fit in a wheel bearing, a mishap with the front brakes locking up, custom making spacers for the drive shaft, STi control arms, STi steering rack, and a few bushings that were simply roasted, (I'm sure I'm missing a thing or two..)

A huge shout out to Tom, Jay, and Matt, the fantastic crew at Wicked.

I'm so glad I found such a great shop to work with. Don't hesitate to give these guys a call with the next round of mods that's outside of your ability.

What: Downpipe, Heatshield install, and street tune on my 2013 WRX.

We'll I am another happy customer, Tom did the downpipe install quickly and Matt had already had my car ready to tune before the install was done. The tune on my car feels great and was done quickly, all I have is a downpipe so it was a pretty simple tune.

10/10 would definitely recommended them to anyone looking to get work done.

Matt and Jim over at the RI location were great to deal with. Jim was extremely quick with all of the installs, which cut down on the labor costs. Both Jim and Matt are very knowledgeable about all kinds of cars, and it was a lot of fun hanging out and talking while they worked. Matt's tune completely transformed my car, and turned it into an absolute beast. He also noticed and quickly fixed a boost leak (free of charge) that was being caused by my bad attempt at a boost gauge install. The guys over at Wicked truly care about the customers, and treat you like you're one of their buddies. It's important to trust your tuner and anyone who works on your car, and I can say without a doubt that I know I am in good hands with the guys over at Wicked. I will be using them for any future installs and service that I may have.

I don't know if my post went thru but I'll try again.

I agree 100%. Tom, M@ and Jay at wicked are super nice and know their stuff. Not only are they nice but they speak to you in a manor of professionalism.

I had some issues with my tune ( 2013 wrx stage 2 ) from another company that set it up. I spoke to M@ and he explained pretty much everything to me ( some stuff way over my head ) and reassured me that everything would be fine.

After he did his magic, basically no more knock, dam was back to 1, and my car made better tq and hp.

End result peeps.... They are what you would expect....

From my experience mechanics in general cannot be trusted any farther than the range it takes to cut them to pieces with an axe, blow by bloody blow. Most of them deserve it too. Tuners are an even more flaky kind of mechanic, it's kind of funny because I met someone who used to work for Revotek in Europe who basically said "tuners are the most flaky people I've ever met".

But I am not just prejudiced against mechanics or tuners, it's human nature in a world of scarce resources to try to grab whatever you can and reach for as much as you can get. While this is primordial instinct, sometimes you get more flies with honey than predatory werewolfishness.

I was not happy with the way the GR STi drove from the factory because compared to the GD's, it just sucked. The 2011+'s were a little stiffer but honestly, this car was an EPA safety-crat luxobarged perversion of what Subaru Technica International used to mean.

I called every tuner in the area last year (let's not mention names) but there are a bunch of pretty prominent ones. Think of most of the major tuners from Western CT to central Mass and greater Boston area; you know who they are. Every one I called either gave me outrageous prices, or they gave me a scripted "plan" or both. While more often than not they were OK with buying my own parts to bring in, their ability to answer questions to my satisfaction and explain the consequences of my mods were not very good. It was almost like each one of them had a scripted plan that was often based on parts or processes that anyone who knows about these things is aware have high profit margins. I understand that everyone needs to make a buck; no margin no mission, but I did not feel that any one of the tuners I contacted were working in the best interest of their customer.

Wicked Innovation, as someone else said, actually treats you like you're their friend, their brother. When I first went to them a year ago, I asked for all these things like full suspension bushings, a Koyo radiator, just different things that they told me "Sergio, you don't need it".

Of course they had no idea how hard I was going to drive the car. At my last ADSI, the car started to handle funny and make funky noises on hard cornering. It had started after the ADSI autocross before that, but got worse. Matt took a ride with me and suggested the car be looked at. Since I wanted to eventually get coilovers, springs, bracing and full suspension bushings, I took this opportunity to do just that.

Well, Tom came back after taking everything apart with a smile this big on his face, happy that a customer of his actually used and will be using a modded car like mine to the full capacity of its mods. While nothing was broken, I had thoroughly thrashed the rear diff and LCA bushings and a few other bushings that were on their way out; now that I have the full urethane treatment, I am more confident that stuff won't break.

Tom is just so conservative in recommending things, but once he figured out how I will be driving my STi in anger to the full capacity of what it can do, we came up with a plan to make a highly durable, reliable car that will be fun to drive for years to come. The explanations and discussions were extensive, he always emailed, called me back. He and Jay and Matt are just so smart, so polite, so friendly and take such massive pride in getting the job done, done right while treating the customer right, almost to a flaw. Such decency is in short supply these days; I would not hesitate to invite Tom or Jay or Matt to dinner or to a track day or to grab dinner.

At any rate, I commend everyone at Wicked and highly recommend this shop for any modding, tuning, customization or routine maintenance of your Subaru. It's a small operation of passionate, college educated, highly intelligent people who know about hidden treasures like Lancia Delta HF Integrales and have tons of track time and experience. It's truly fun to see the excitement and pride they take in their work, often not charging you for stuff that "takes just 10 minutes". Thanks to the low overhead they have, they can charge silly reasonable prices and still make a profit. They will treat you like an old friend, a brother or sister, and will do outstanding work.

No praise is too great for Thomas Downes, Jayson and Matthew Miner of Wicked Innovation.

Now that I have the full suspension work, upgraded pads, DBA brakes, I will be shooting for fastest time at the next ADSI (I know it's not a race.. but). I might not be the fastest, but the car is.... that good I feel I have a shot. While the Gods might punish me with a spun rod bearing for the hubris just posted, I want to make a point. My car is probably 65% race car minus a straight pipe exhaust (stock catback), stripped interior and a roll cage, cylinder sleeves, methanol, wheels, race slicks and an upgraded turbo. It looks and mostly sounds 100% box stock from the outside, and I did that on purpose. I don't want to advertise this fact that I have what amounts to a very practical near supercar, but I am posting this for effect. What I am happy to announce is that the wonderful people at Wicked Innovation helped make my rally car hot hatch dreams a reality.

Thank you Tom, Jay and Matt, hugs, kisses and may the wind fill your sails and you all enjoy sunshine for a long time!

Your friend
Sergio

Definitely have to give Wicked Innovations and Matt Miner another thumbs up! Had my car tuned when the shop was in 'Gansett. Everyone was super friendly and I am very satisfied with the tune on my car.
Recently I ran into a low boost issue and could not chase it down. I replaced nearly every part associated with the turbo system. Wastage actuator, bvp, ebcs, vacuum line, gaskets, smoke tested it many times, and quite a few other things. Finally, I reached out to Wicked and Matt PMed me back quickly and offered a me up quite a bit of information. He was very patience and by addressing what he said I was able to isolate the problem and resolve it quickly (turned out the shield had broken off of the front 02 sensor and got stuck in the turbo). I was extremely impressed and thankful, as I am not a frequent customer or person friend, yet I was treated as such.
If anyone is still on the fence about Wicked Innovation, and I don't know why you would be, they are a great shop to work with and I couldn't be happier. If you need work done, definitely give them your business.

Took my car in at noon on Saturday and work was finished around an hour later. Waited only about 5 minutes before the car was on the lift and being worked on (and watching Jack Reacher on their Netflix). I had a long email chain discussing what I was going to have performed as well as the cost, Tom stayed responsive over the period of several months (started talking in February). At one point in the email thread I asked about a boost leak test because of some A/F numbers I was seeing and M@ hopped in the thread and told me it was not a boost leak and those numbers were normal.

They could of easily charged me to do a boost leak test but instead gave me some free advice and saved me some cash. This may not seem like a big deal to some but that's a huge plus in my book, especially when some places try and jam stuff down your throat you don't even want/need just for some extra income.

At once point during the removal of my wheels the mechanic (name is slipping my mind) peeled off a chunk of plasti dip removing a lug-nut by accident. He came into the waiting room and pulled me into the garage to show me what happened. I was very amazed he even showed me when he could have easily covered it up and would have taken me days to even notice. It is only plasti-dip and could have happened no matter what so its all good.

I chatted with the mechanic about some future mods after everything was completed and about future tuning. He was very down to earth and understanding that not everyone has tons of cash to throw at our cars. Overall my experience was great, they were quick, honest, polite, responsive and after all that the work came in under estimate cost. Just like their website outlines even though it was only a few hundred dollars worth of work they treat you like an important customer.

I will be definitely be returning for future mods and tuning, display their sticker proudly, and recommending anyone else to head their way.

I haven't been active too much on here, but I wanted to review Wicked from the experiences I have.

What I have: 2008 Subaru Legacy GT
Basically I talked to Matt about wanting a decent amount of power, with nothing too much considering it's my daily driver. We talked back and forth a lot, and eventually I got the ball rolling with a tune / dp install after I had my exhaust purchased and installed by my friends.. That was the beginning of my addiction.

From there are, the list added up - and I still want more, eventually, as funds are limited as of right now. Here is a list.

**Performance"STAGE 2+"**
(~230-240awhp & 270-280awtq)
- Magnaflow Catback Exhaust
- Invidia Catless Downpipe
- Turbosmart Kompact bypass valve
- Deatschwerks 65c fuel pump
- Cobb SF Short Ram Intake
- Opensource ProTune - Street Tune by Wicked Innovation/Matt Miner

**Visual**
- JNA Legacy GT Retro Fit Kit High Quality Polyurethane Lip
- Eyelids (forget brand)
- Cosmis Racing xt-005r 18x9 White Wheels
- Hankook Ventus Evo V12 Tires
- S206 Side Skirt Extensions
- Rear Spats

**Suspension**
- ISC Suspensions Coilovers
- Whiteline Rear Lower Control Arm Kit

I am very happy with Matt, and WI in general, has treated me. They're always down to earth, let you know some suggestions based on what you're looking for. They are definitely not the type who will give you a list of "what you need" which will usually cost a fortune, they will tell you what you need, what's comfortable, tell you pricing, and only do what you want them to do: instead of going on with what they want. That is a biggie in my eyes, and I truly appreciate it.

Another super positive interaction with the wicked crew. Tuesday I had jimmy roll my fenders. He fit me in his schedule last minute and it really worked out. Took his time as we chatted a bit and the roll job came out excellent. No paint cracking at all, not bad for a bugeye. He also showed me his very nice wrx so that was really cool. I was very happy with the whole interaction, definitely coming back there as soon as his paint booth is set up for some little work. Very happy with wicked body works (a subsidiary of wicked innovation).
The next day I saw jay and Tom, again very last minute so they could squeeze in a quick couple hours of work for me. Got my rear knuckles pulled apart added new backing plates
And some new wheel bearings. I probably could have gotten it done somewhere else, but why not go to the guys who really give a damn, so I did. Shot the shiz for a while and headed back home, happy the job got done right. Tom and jay are awesome dudes, did the work quick and cleanly. Always an a+ in my book! They just won't let me buy them pizza
Don't even get me started on Matt Miner, ugh he tuned my car. What a jerk. Nah just kidding, totally nice guy, super informative and helpful. there seems to be a lot of buzz around tuners in this area, about how so and so is the best and this guys way better. I don't know, but i put full faith into my matt miner tune. i asked for it to be very conservative and reliable and that's exactly what I got. I wasn't shooting for off the charts power, but something fun to drive and he understood just what I needed. I think he did a pretty killer job. My car is a blast to drive all thanks to wicked. I'm pretty sure if its not me working on my car it will be any of these legends. Wicked innovation rules!

My Subaru has been in and out of Wicked a few times in the past couple of years (transmission swap, tune, brakes, timing belt, motor mounts, etc.). I just got my turbo Miata back from them, and couldn't be happier.

Last year, I started a plan for turboing my Miata. Matt helped me out immensely, and did a great job of answering my hundreds of annoying questions and providing his input and guidance. After I had sourced all of the parts, I began to install everything that I could. This was in September of last year. In the beginning of November, I gave Tom a call and asked if he and Jay would be interested in helping me finish up the car. I needed a downpipe fabricated, the FMIC and turbo mounted, gauges installed, and some water and oil lines run. After a couple of quick discussions, Tom said that it shouldn't be a problem, and would take about 3 days to complete, and that I could bring it in later in the month.

So when the time came in late November, I sent the car up to the shop via AAA. Tom kept in contact with me and let me know that it had safely arrived. While Tom and Jay were working on it, they would keep in touch and call me with any questions they had about the setup, or questions about my preferences. Three days later, (right on estimate) the car was buttoned up and ready for tuning.

Now this is where the story gets interesting, and I can't thank Tom, Jay, and Matt enough. I had previously installed a new MegaSquirt from DIY Autotune, which Matt would be using to tune the car. When the car was ready for tuning, it has having problems starting. We thought that it may be a problem with the cam angle sensor. After quickly swapping in one of Matt's spare CAS's, it was apparent that the problem was the MegaSquirt. I reached out to DIY Autotune to let them know about the problem. After some back and forth of DIY working directly with Matt and Tom, DIY finally accepted that it was a problem with the MegaSquirt, and said to send it in for repair.

Due to the holidays and freak snowstorms in the South where DIY is located, it took 5 weeks to get the MegaSquirt back. This puts us in 2014. Tom and Matt helped me hound DIY during this time period, and were incredibly patient and gracious to store my at the shop, since my house is located 2 hours away. When we finally got the MegaSquirt back, the car started, but ran on only 3 cylinders, right out of the box. Again, it was apparent that the MegaSquirt was not fixed correctly.

At this point, Tom was working directly with DIY (thanks again Tom!) to troubleshoot and diagnose. DIY did not want to accept that the problem was in their hands (They threatened to charge us diagnostic fees on their end because they thought Wicked was wrong), but after a few more weeks of troubleshooting and speedy communication back to DIY, the MegaSquirt was sent back again. After a week, DIY realized that the MegaSquirt was damaged beyond repair, and sent a new unit.

This brings us to last weekend. Tom installed the new MegaSquirt, and the car fired right up. Matt tuned it as soon as possible, and the car is back in my hands now.

Per usual, Wicked gets an 11 out of 10 for customer service, knowledge, patience, skill, and communication. (What else did I miss?!) If it wasn't for Wicked, I'd be stranded with a non-running car and a DOA MegaSquirt.

As for DIY Autotune, it was the worst customer experience that I have faced in my life. They receive a -5 out of 10 in every category.

Edit: P.S. my Miata is rusty and in some rough shape, and there was no judging from the Wicked side
I forgot to follow up on my previous review for my Miata. I drove my Miata for a few weeks on the base tune that M@ did on it, then got it back to him to finish up the tuning and to add a manual boost controller. M@ put many great hours into the car, including some time on the dyno. Every penny was well worth it. I will let the dyno chart speak for itself here. The car pulls incredibly smooth and hard, right until the spark cut My power goal for this car was 200 whp. M@ made that happen, hitting 202 whp, while keeping the motor running at safe levels. Amazing!

Look at them curves!!

I believe I have a post in here somewhere about M@ tuning my VF39 wagon, back in 2011. Back then, I had asked for a somewhat conservative tune. (The tune came out great, A+). I figured it was time for an updated tune, so I had M@ retune it with some time on the dyno. Again, have a look at the chart. Smooth curves, and power gains everywhere. The mid power torque gains are very very nice

11/10 again fellas!!

Another thumbs up for Wicked.

Work was done on 6/14/14.

Been wanting to do Konis, RCE blacks, Com C top hats and an antilift kit for my '12 WRX, and decided to look into having it done my someone who knew what they were doing and had more than a driveway to do it in

Price quoted was very reasonable in my opinion, and they were able to make a time that worked well for me. Plus they're not that far from Boston area and easy to get too.

When they realized I had to stick around for the work to be done, they cranked it out so I wouldn't be stuck hanging too long, which I appreciated and was more than I'd expect.

I had a few questions about my car and they were more than helpful answering them, obvious they know their stuff and enjoy what they do, even when it's on a Sat.

Would definitely recommend them, added bonus was finding a place that plays decent music while the work, makes waiting that much easier

Good stuff -

Thanks again,
- Steve
