$11k for a 92 in good shape with 80k. Don't know what else you could get that would be better. If you keep it up and don't load it with miles it will be worth more later. My ucle never had any problems with his that I can remember. It only had like 45k on it when he sold though and he rarely beat on it. I think he got like $17k for it.
I've heard they do have some reliabilty problems though (I'm sure you've read the stuff on the SyTy pages) and can rust where the body cladding rubs the sheetmetal. As far as utility goes not really that good. The cargo area is not much bigger then what you got now. Payload is only like 400lbs and it's too low to do offroading.

If you want a very quick more practicle sleeper SUV look for a behemoth 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limitied. Like 260hp 350 ft/lb torque Quadratrac full time 4wd. 0-60 low sixes 4200lb curb weight. Leather seats, tons of cargo space, good off-road. Probley get one for under 25k.

Colin I agree those 89' Turbo TAs were pretty bad. Some dude in my old neiberhood had one that he did some work to and he would repeatedly blow away any of my gearhead freinds in high school.

I have a 92 Typhoon. It's quick to 100 mph, and then the box shape slows it. It is a great utility vehicle, but you can't haul as much as a true SUV. Email me and any info.

I wouldn't put my worst enemy in one of those things. GM has yet to build a compact pickup or SUV that didn't do horribly in the crash tests. Right now, the S-10 and the GMC Jimmy hold the title as the most unsafe trucks on the road. Back before the redesign, they were even worse. Here's a pic of how the new Jimmy/Blazer did in it's test, keep in mind that the old Jimmy(which the Typhoon was based on) was even worse in the crash tests.

This pic shows where the dummy's head bounced off of the airbag, bent backwards and struck the window frame, denting it, then springing back hitting the B-pillar.

This picture shows passenger side footwell deformation, which is highly unusual for an offset crash test, in which the driver's side takes all of the impact.

It's actually quite a shame that some of GM's best cars(e.g., Grand National, GMC Syclone/Typhoon) were such life threatening vehicles. If they were not, I'd probably own both. If you don't care about safety(read: your life), then I say, go for it. It's a fast truck.

They are damn fast and can be made even faster without much trouble. I do agree about the antiquated dashboard design (I never liked that dash to begin with), though I kinda like the idea of an SUV with some balls. Oh and can't forget that the AWD is a positive as well on it.

Geoff, it probably does not have a clean title if it was a drug recovery, and as such is worth maybe 50-66% of retail at most.

Also, dont forget that if the vehicle does NOT have a clean title, no dealer will except the vehicle as trade in. In fact no dealer will touch the car. Cars with Salvage, Theft, Flood, etc brandings are very, very hard to get rid of. Check to make sure this vehicle doesnt have a branded title.

Colin: CarFax reports a clean title on it. The only thing I'm wondering is why it was repainted dark grey, from its original black. I'm going to find out shortly. If I don't get this one, I'll look around ... either that or throw MORE money at the OBS with a TEC-II or something. Edwin Foo's almost convinced me to get one.
