Clutch engagement noise (Video)
I have had this problem for months and I have posted many times and searched for hours. I finally took a video, sorry about the quality.. You can notice the sound the most when the camera is under the side skirt.
Description: I have a noise that's a little clunk or tap sound when I let out the clutch. It sounds like the clutch engaging if that makes sense. If I have my car in neutral and slowly let out the clutch I can't hear it. It only happens when you let the clutch out modestly fast. If the car is not running it does not make the sound. It only happens when the engine is running? It sound like its coming from the transmission area. It's not the rear end clunking because it happens when the car is just sitting stationary. |

Could be your release bearing.

Look up a clutch replacement...
The release bearing or throw out bearing is what the clutch fork rides on and allows it to release the clutch.. A clutch job means either engine or trans comes out or is moved far enough to do the work.. not the funnest job in the world.. |

Sorry to get back so late, I just got off of work ugh. Anyway like Aaron'z said the throwout/release bearing is located inside of the transmission bellhousing and can only be accessed on of the two ways Aaron'z mentioned. But!, don't stress, as long as everything is working properly on your car, as far as the clutching is concerned, you will be okay. Your car appears to be an '06. Things are going to start making noise.

The clutch and flywheel were replaced by a reputable Subaru tuning shop less than 10k ago. |
