Boosting with a MAP/MAF on 2010+ cars.
I got kinda drunk the other night and started to take measurements on my '12 and found out that it looks like a few parts(turbo) I've got lying in the garage would fit with some very minor work.
After checking my MAP sensor with a scanner with a scan tool, it looks like it can read up to 19.9psi. I don't know if that's the limit of the sensor, or the limit that the ECU can read. Does anyone have experience messing around with N/A ECUs to read some boost? My car has a MAF and a MAP, so I assume it would be a bit easier to tune than a straight MAP car, even if done by eliminating the MAP altogether. 5psi is better than nothing, but honestly I'd rather just skip the effort of finding a tuner if all I'll get is 5psi. Thank you for your help!

I have no idea about 2010 cars. The first thing would be see if you can download your ROM with a Tactrix cable. Is this an EcuFlash capable car? Just google it. Or look on romraider for Stock rom list for your car.
On a maf car the map sensor doesn’t do all that much. The map basically can make adjustments based on your altitude or barometric pressure. Last edited by pcampbell; 06-21-2019 at 11:16 AM. |

Did you figure it out??
1 thing. The limit might be 19.9 absolute psi which is 5 psi above atmospheric pressure. I.e. 14.7 psi. The map sensor is not a big deal to change out. The na sensors are known to max at at 5 psi relative (that is the number we see at 5 pounds of boost). Were you measuring manifold relative pressure or absolute? Sorry for the late response. It's been a busy week at work. I just unplugged the sensor and blew air into it with a compressor, so absolute.
The ECU's capability was my big concern. While tuning it, I was thinking that I could get a tuner to plug in and set a sort of "boost cut" when the MAP picks up more than around 22 psi absolute, but after speaking with the only tuner around and being talked down on before I could even explain that I knew what I was talking about, I don't think I'm gonna be going the turbo route. I can get the hardware done, but I can't tune, and if the only guys around with a decent reputation wanna talk down on a potential customer before they can even finish a sentence, I don't particularly trust them to tune anything past a wrx with an intake and exhaust. I realize how petty this sounds, but frankly it's a poor way to treat a potential customer. |

I initially had my supercharged EJ tunes by a pro. It knocked badly so I learned to do it myself.
It is not that hard to tune. It’s basically timing and fuel. You need to make a lot of WOT pulls. So you need somewhere relatively safe to do that. |

I've got the area, and I think I could do it, but I'd feel awful if I blew up my engine doing so. I may hang on to the car and try when I graduate and have some more free time.

If it’s your only car it can be a little tricky to do with zero downtime.
