Whichever turbo fits your budget and goals. We can't answer that question for you, because we're not you. For some it might be a TD05-18G, for others it may be a GT42R on Nitrous with propane injection. This is NOT the forum to answer your question though (as vague as it is), it's simply to list turbos

Does anybody have any specs for the Slowboy Racing 20G? I'm no turbo expert and i didnt know if it was basically spec'd from every other 20g or if they did their own thing with it that changes the amount of air flow.

for the most part fp's 20g, deadbolts 20g, and slowboy's 20g, will have the same approximate hp rating, all of these have a 44lb compressor wheel and 7 or 8cm hotsides

Garrett GT2860RS (aka GT28RS), stock location
Turbine Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim
-Housing: .64 or .86 ar
Compressor Wheel: 60mm w/ 62 trim
-Housing: .60 ar
$1,695.0

Dual Ball Bearing GT28RS turbo assembly with T25 style turbine inlet. Comes with internal wastegate pre-assembled. This turbo is great for small displacement engines up to 2.2L and has the ultimate spool up time compared to other units. This turbo has a flow capacity of about 350HP. This turbo would be comparable to the HKS GT2530.

Garrett GT2871R, stock location
Turbine Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim
-Housing: .86 or .64 ar
Compressor Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .60 ar
$1,745.00

Dual Ball Bearing GT2871R turbo assembly with T25 style turbine inlet. Comes with internal wastegate pre-assembled when purchased with T25 style housing.
Optional "T3/T4 drop-in" style turbine housing available for an easy retrofit into older T3 based applications where T3 turbine the inlet flang is required and either internal or external wastegate are used (internal wastegate assembly is not included when ordering T3/T4 drop-in configuration).

This turbo is great for small displacement engines up to 2.2L and has the ultimate spool up time compared to other units. This turbo has a flow capacity of about 400HP. The external packaging of this turbo is identical to that of the GT28RS and can be a nice stealthy upgrade to step up to 400HP of flow without much re-arrangement.

Garrett GT3071R, stock location
Turbine Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim
Compressor Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim
**Available internally or externally gated at no additional charge.
$1,895.00

The Garrett GT Ball Bearing GT3071R, quite possibly the fastest spooling and most responsive 450+HP capable turbo on the planet now available in a drop-in package for the Subaru WRX/STI! The easy to implement turbo assembly that takes no more than 1-2 hours to install in place of the stock journal bearing VFXX unit is made possible by a high flowing GT inspired ATP exhaust housing and a series of custom engineered components built to suit the installation.

Each GT drop-in turbo package consists of a Garrett factory assembled and high speed balanced dual ball bearing CHRA which is then assembled into a set of CNC machine ported housings that have been optimized in every aspect for maximum flow and efficiency.

All accompanying oil and coolant supply components included in each kit have been designed to properly and seamlessly bridge the Garrett GT turbo to the EJ engine so that the fit is as OE as possible.

Just bolt the turbo on, add fueling and a good tune and prepare for a blast of acceleration. Garrett GT turbos offer more then just "peak HP" numbers. These GT turbos off more torque area under the curve and more "accessible" power then any other turbos series out there.

We do recommend that you compliment your GT bolt-on turbo with a nice high flowing bellmouth downpipe and a high flowing inlet pipe to effortless channel air in and out of the turbo. Although every bolt-on GT turbo ships with a 3" inlet, we do provide a "stepdown" sleeve just in case you're forced to use the stock 2.25" inlet hose. However, as a rule of thumb, turbos, especially higher flowing units love as much inlet flow as possible. This promotes both quicker spoolup and better ultimate HP, with less boost pressure at the manifold. The 3" downpipe and bigger inlet is critical for reaching peak efficiency on the GT turbo. Please also be aware that some downpipes such as the stock catted downpipe, has a "no-flow" door at the wastegate flapper area. This type of downpipe may not allow the wider swinging wastegate valve to open all the way, thus causing the possibility of a "boost-creep" condition or uncontrollable rise in boost.

The GT3071R is a great match on the 2.5L, especially if you're looking for boost threshold that is close to stock but want enough airflow for 450+HP. Almost all the boost is available all the time even at part to medium throttle. Boost recovery between gearshifts is awesome with full boost ready even before upshift is complete as the STI lurches forward with shear enthusiasm at the onse of each gear. The 2.0L driver should not rule out the use GT3071R if his HP target is in the same range. The modern generation wheels, coupled with an awesome wheel ratio, allows even the smaller displacement engine to provide adequate motivation to get the GT3071R going for an great powerband. The competition grade turbo still offers the best response and spooltime out of any unit in this flow range.

Garrett GT3076R, stock location
Turbine Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim
Compressor Wheel: 76.2mm w/ 56 trim

The Garrett GT Ball Bearing GT3076R, the benchmark 500+ HP capable dual ball bearing turbo, is now available in a drop-in package for the Subaru WRX/STI! The GT3076R makes boost about 300 to 400 rpms later than the GT3071R but keeps pumping where the GT3071R starts to run out after 450HP. A lot of the boost is available even at part to medium throttle. Dual ball bearings means boost recovery between gearshifts is awesome with full boost ready even before upshift is complete as the STI lurches forward with shear enthusiasm at the onse of each gear. The 2.0L driver should not rule out the use of the GT3076R if his HP target is in the same range. This competition grade turbo is still a big favorite for the HP range because it hits like a hammer while other 500HP turbos are still "spooling up".

it should be listed that the compressor housings on the 08/09 wrx are the LGT style and only bolt to the stock top mount. and that generic compressor housings will not work on stock 08/09 top mounts.

That's sort of like asking us which woman you should marry. It depends on your goals, desires, intended use, and budget.

This is not the right place to ask that question. Also, that question is so vague that it's clear that you're nowhere near a point where you should be asking that, you should be researching and researching some more.

1. Decide on your goals for the car
2. Decide on a whp/wtq goal for the car
3. Decide on a budget
4. Research
5. Research
6. Re-research

Hi!
I'm totally new! I'm from Italy and I'm desperate.
I'm searching for information about a turbocharger ihi vf38 (or vf44 or vf45).
I can't understand what's the difference between vf38 and vf44 and vf45.
Compressor wheel ind/exd are different? Turbine wheel ind/exd?
Journal bearing? Or ball bearing? Someone say that they're ball bearing, but on ebay and others I see that they're journal bearing..
Thank you very much!

Some ebay link to understand:

vf38
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IHI-RHF5H-VF38...4.c0.m14.l1262

vf44
http://cgi.ebay.com/IHI-RHF5H-VF44-T...3286.m63.l1177

vf45
http://cgi.ebay.it/IHI-RHF5H-VF45-Tw...3286.m63.l1177

In the second link they say that vf 44 replace VF38 VF45 and VF47. So vf47 is very similar to vf38, vf44 and vf45 too?

Sorry for my bad English, but I'm really going mad about all this VF twin scroll turbochargers.

nice write up. now you can add this one:

Forced Performance - 68HTA (Bolt on)
FP's newest turbo is the FP 68HTA™Turbocharger for the Subaru STi/WRX unit which out flows both the E316g and 18g wheels and allows for higher PR operation without increased compressor outlet temperatures like the existing 16g and 18g wheels. Mass flow is increased to a whopping 47lb/min which is several lb/min greater than either the E316g or the 18g wheels are capable of. Rapid spool and large torque numbers are guaranteed by the TD05H turbine section.
These units are constructed from Genuine MHI 16g turbochargers which are reconfigured to 68HTA specs by Forced Performance.
