I will try to get some more exhaust work done and see how the sound changes.

Not really any more update as of yet. The only thing i did was remove the exhaust cut-out to see how that affected the rasp, it helped a little bit but i will still need to add my second muffler and some flex joints but I have been so swamped with building a FSAE race car that i have had no time for anything else.

Once the semester is over in may I will be able to get some more work done and get some more videos of the driving experiance.

Nice, what kind of wheels are those? And are you also saying center lock?

those are ATS DTM wheels, and yeah i would need to do a center lock conversion. Probably a bit overkill, lol we will see its an idea that has been slowly making its way out of the back of my mind.

Very interesting. I was gonna do an OEM attempt but eventually gave in and chose the path of standalone with a tandem STi ECU tied in for passing plug in. Also since I'm building a turbo the standalone made more sense and I've been building up the whole of my OBS. What did you do about coolant passages to the radiator? I got a Mishimoto and am adding a second coolant entery. All my wiring is swapped to 05' STi and 04' STi 6speed and all that jazz. Great job so far. The guy Pat was talking about that had tried the OEM ECU route before was Slack and the dealership had actually tried to help but couldn't. Maybe the UK stuff is the key on how it managed to work? Great job though!

Thanks, and for the coolant i welded up an aluminum tube that runs the length of the radiator with two inlets/outlets. Its a bit dodgy, but i was under a bit of a time crunch trying to get the project "completed" over winter break from school.
I nearly wish that i had gone for the standalone ecu, for sure the UK ecu helped as I didnt have to worry about wiring or electronics looking for a auto trans. But I would imagine since the entire car is essentially a 06 legacy (at least from the electronics point of view) all the dealer had to do was register the Immobilizer chip in the key.

I know that over in the UK more people explore retuning the stock with ecutek, I would like to try and explore that to perhaps switch to e85 and try to get as much out of the NA H6 as possible. I have a few ideas to play around with once summer comes

Yeah here in New England finding e85 isn't as easy so I'm sticking to 93 and Meth. With a 91 tune as back up for the areas 93's not as easy to find. If I want to push more I'll just order up some C16 or other race fuels through the shop I work at part time.

OP, why don't you do an H-pipe and dualies? That would get the tone deeper and more bassy.

93 and meth would be a pretty good option as well. something like this would be pretty cool on a flat 6 subbie

as for an h pipe and true dual exhaust there is not much room in the tunnel for another pipe. I do have another muffler to add, and want to add a longer resonator as well as some flex joints in the y pipe.

hah sometimes i swear it sounds like 9k redline, however the gauges are from the us legacy spec b a 4 cylinder, so it doesn't quite match the output signal from the engine, Everything is stock internally for now, oh and somewhere around 7k should be the stock rev limit. At least for the manual transmission uk versions anyways

Yeah with pulling the motor appart and replacing the bearings and making sure to keep engine temps cooler with upgraded radiator and oil cooler you should safely be able to rev higher. The really key part will be valve train. Supertech makes full valve train upgrades. That's what'll be going into mine.

The 93 will go a long way but the meth won't do much for NA without higher compression. In which case e85 will do more for you if you can find a means of tuning.

yeah tunning will be the key to getting any extra power without opening up the engine. Ive got about 3 weeks left of school and about 6 weeks left of FSAE race car before I can really start looking into the various ways to tune the oem ecu. I really do want to get a ITB set up done on the intake side, I have a e85 station 5 min from me so that is a option I will look into. Also I will try to get a dyno run with the current setup to get some sort of idea what my power curves look like.

I'm not in Lawrence a whole lot, but I will keep my eyes open for this beast when I am. Keep my ears tuned in too.

I sure would have liked to see you take the port length into consideration when you built those headers. It would be difficult to get accurate measurements on the ports length, but it doesn't appear you have trouble with difficult things. I wish Subaru would put equal length ports on their engines.

^^^ They do... IIRC, from 06 on the EJ25 has EL headers from the factory, and all them boys are switching to UEL to get the rumble lol.

Anyway, AMAZING work man. This kind of project takes a seriously dedi-f*cking-cated person to undertake. I don't even want to think of the stress level you must have at times..

if you want to fix your tach, get one of these.

http://www.bakerelectronix.com/products_tsd/

I i believe you will need the 2/3 multiplyer for a 6 cylinder engine and a 4 cylinder tach. I think that's what i got for my eg33 swap. or just spend the extra 10 bux and get adjustable one.

alteast with the tach right you can do some maths to figure out how fast your going until you get the speedo sorted out.

StatGSR, thanks for that bit of info I figured that something like that would be needed without replacing the gauge cluster. AS for my speedo its a little more frustrating, for the legacy the signal comes from the ASB control unit, I have a legacy unit that i swapped in, however if I plug in the unit I still dont get a working speedo and the car is in the rev limit "limp" mode.

Diagnostics show that its a bad ABS unit so I may have to bit the bullet and just get a new one from subaru. What I would give for a subaru select monitor so i could diagnose things mcuh easier.

Oh yeah and I did get my second muffler installed as well as fixed a couple small leaks, Sound is much smoother than before but still a bit raspy around my tach rpm of 3500-4500 ish.

You could try one of these as well. Reads speed off the wheel speed sensors instead of a vss in the trans.
