A Highlander is almost as tall as a Land Cruiser, and minivans provide the same "up-high" driving position.

The 200 series LC feels considerably higher up than a Sienna. There is no illusion that you aren't piloting a 5800lb monster when driving a LC. When I test drove a Highlander, it felt small and agile on the road compared to even my 4Runner. I think the real difference is that the seat bottom on a LC or 4Runner have to be mounted above the frame while the unitbody of the Highlander gives it a little more flexibility in packaging (thus why it has more interior space for the body size compared to a 4Runner). /nitpicking

The 4Runner's seat feels too low to me, to add yet another viewpoint. They mounted it on the floor to make up for the low roofline (relative to ride/frame height). The LC200's h point definitely is supra-minivan.

Well, looked through the Sienna brochure last night and the AWD model has run-flat tires. Everything I've heard about them is they suck. We can get by without AWD as we put on snow tires anyway. Still considering the Flex but optioned out they get very pricey.

Supposedly they've gotten better. But in my limited experience, run flats suck. My RE050A RFT's are horrid. Great traction, but I've never had a set of tires that tramlined this bad. Even on the freeway you better have two hands on the wheel at all times...

Any of yall have families and a Honda Pilot or Acura MDX? We have three kids so one will have to sit in the "way back" and they are 5' tall to 5'7. It seems the third row is pretty tight.

I've been in the very back of my father-in-laws 2012 Pilot a number of times. It is fine - seat is pretty low to the floor so your knees are bent, but not too bad for my 5'11" frame. To contrast, the very back of a Honda Odyssey is far more comfortable, and there is a bit more room behind the third row. It's too bad they don't offer it with AWD.

Odyssey and Sienna have very good 3rd rows. Any crossover or SUV typically has a fairly low seat for the third row (The Flex might be an exception) as they are jacked up higher than a mini-van.
I was testing a QX56 this weekend and was surprised at how much less room it has compared to a mini-van. |

The 3rd row in the Tribeca is tight - probably tighter than the Pilot/MDX. I'd like to see 3rd row space like the Tesla Model X...

The Pilot is a fat/wide vehicle. We put 8 in ours quite often. But we have never tried 3 adults in the 3rd row. Tribeca's 3rd row is much tighter but, that is hip wise. Any 3rd row is going to have a shallow floor.

But the floor is still shallow. MDX is sweet but, different trans than the Pilot. More sporty so horrible gas mileage on the hwy. Peace, Greg |

Found more details on the Touring Elite trim level, didn't even know it existed until today.
HID headlights, 650 watt 12 speaker sound system with subwoofer with 15gb hard drive and 16" LCD display that can play two different movies simultaneously for the DVD and two wireless headsets - third row has jacks or you have to buy another. Also has an HDMI input and remote controls. True 5.1 surround sound. Has a six speed trans instead of five and a lockout to keep it 1-4 in traffic, which changes the shift points. Voice or Dash operated Nav with real-time FM traffic. Set up for XM radio. Also has a "Blind spot information system" that detects if cars are on the quarters. Owners manual is 707 pages and the Nav system has a separate manual.

So we tried the 3rd row, put my 5'3" 11 y/o back there and he complained about not having leg room. The Odyssey on the other hand can fit anyone in any seat comfortably. I would check out the 14 MDX though, I miss the handling and luxury of that vehicle. |

The 4th gen Odysseys have five fuse boxes.
We just had the factory tow kit (hitch, harness and ATF cooler) and roof rails installed. Local dealer wanted MSRP - $420. Bernardi Honda has an online parts business and it was $265, plus shipping. Shipping wasn't cheap as the box was something like $65 but $420 - no way. |
