Pre I am 100% with you. My panels go up any day, 80-90% solar production and I'm done writing $400-500 checks every month to our insane electrical company.

My wife stoped driving her hybrid minivan and only drives my Tesla because she loves it. We went from April until the end of July without having to put gas in a vehicle and test was only due to,taking the van to Maine and back.

You're also missing the cost and size of battery cells in your comparison. 95 cells in a prius. 800-900 4680 cells in the new Model Y. The size between is both incomparable. A commenter brought up a great point as well on TheDrive website:

We know how to recycle electronics, but in real life it ends somewhere in a dump on the coast of Africa, burned by disadvantaged people in open air to recover some metal. Ditto for textile that is the same way is sent to third world pretending it is a "charity" and ends up in open air dumps.
The same is for cars. Many salvage titled cars are already sent to third world for repair or rather to junkyards. Now imagine they have traction batteries with significant disposal cost. They will be sent to Africa 100% to avoid disposal cost, pretending it is for legitimate second-hand use, but most of them will have no significant use there, as old cell phones don't."

We're talking millions of metric tons of Lithium Batteries by 2030-2040, with a world that is not as advanced nor environmentally conscious like 1st World countries, not disposing of these batteries correctly.

Actual reality, and Human action, is entirely different from a projection typed out on a piece of paper.

This needs to go in another thread, but one of the founders of Tesla left and started a new company years ago and they can recycle (cleanly) 100% of the batteries. The batteries are evolving and Tesla has already started using Iron and offering cobalt free batteries. I highlighted hybrid, because we will see tons of hybrid car, SUV's and trucks over the next 10+ years and to demonstrate the longevity of the batteries.

And I heard something about Toyota recycles their hybrid batteries into charging stations. Not sure the numbers though.

I know there are "sources" for these numbers; but, do any of them say where those jobs are? I go into sooooo many places that still say "we are understaffed". I wonder where all these people are working if they aren't in these places. Something about these unemployment numbers just doesn't seem right.

edit: Got a bit of time at the station and read a bit of that with the breakdown of where it is. Though that is what I was asking for, still seems off. Guess I'll have to pay a more detailed attention to places I go.

I have the same discussion frequently enough and it doesn't make sense to me either. I have friends who can't find work and there are jobs that can't find employees...

I don't know anyone who can't find work. I know many places that are short staffed. I think there are several reasons for that. Inflation has driven up the price of everything, including wages. I think many entry level low paying jobs are no longer as adequate as they used to be. And many people have decided they simply don't want to risk being face to face with people. Where those people are working now is a bit of a mystery. But I never thought I would be able to work remotely indefinitely. I never thought my company would begin hiring people who live anywhere and never go into the office. The dynamics of the workforce has changed drastically in the last two years.

Back on topic

I think a <10% increase in sales for a new model is really bad. Especially when you consider that the prior gen was released eight years ago! I bought mine in April 2014. Fans of the wrx have had to wait 8 years for the new car only to see that it's ugly and isn't any faster than the current one. Maybe some of the sales numbers are from supply issues. But if that were the case I suspect they would have mentioned it somewhere. Gas prices may also be a factor, but historically that has not swayed wrx buyers in the past. My 15 has 36k miles on it so the price of gas is not a huge factor for me. Did I mention I'm working from home! If the car had more power and didn't look like a turd I would probably own one right now.

Just an example I was looking for new Premium Foresters one dealer had 20 of them listed on their website with about 10 of them being Premium. I called. Every single one was sold (including the ones in transit). 0 available. I can get on a list or they can order me one which will take 3-6 months. Same story at 3 more local Subaru dealers. Same with Crosstrek (every dealer has 15-30 listed on their site but you are lucky to find a couple that are in transit and still available, and they are usually bare bones manual base model or loaded model).

One dealer showed 50 Mazda CX-5's available on his website. Same thing. Called and there were 5 of the 50 still available but they were not built yet and were all the higher trim models I didn't want.

Don't believe the internet. It tells lies.

So, after calling early last week, I stopped by the closest dealership yesterday, 6 miles down the road from home.
This is the dealership that claims 8 units out of 9 on their lot.
I pulled into the lot right next to the cars: all 8 are accounted for.
It was past 7pm and it looked like things were winding down at the dealership; I didn't stay and chat and just went home.
But, I'll be go back later next week for a test drive and I'll report back here.

When those panels go up you will be doing what I call a doubling down with an EV. Middle finger goes up to OPEC and the kwh companies. At that point gas, ICE, is for fun and you don’t mind spending the money to go drive/ride or whatever. Necessity crap is all from the sun. So having some ICE stuff is fun because you can spend money powering it when you want.

Jealous of the well. Going to scout for my land in the mountains next month. Can’t wait to get away from these Californian invaders. They’ve ruined our way of life here.
