I know it's the nature of rig shots, but I've never been a fan of the shaky lights in the background of rig shots.

To add to what's already a good critique, I don't like how the car is centered vertically in the frame. Gorgeous background though!

Now that I can see clearly now...

The tones and contrast look great to me. A few things do bug me though...the ground doesn't really look wet, but you've got water drops on the hood of the car. I'd fix going one way or the other just for consistency's sake. I also think there's a tiny bit too much space on the left side of the frame, and there's a weird highlight in front of the rear driver's side car that isn't consistent with the shadow. The focus point also seems to be off a tiny bit, since the driver's side front look a bit sharper than the passenger side. Finally, the windshield is almost a little too dark, since it looks darker than the bottom air dam area of the front bumper (where a FMIC would be).

You are all about adding clouds aren't you?! There weren't any clouds there so I really don't want to add something just because. I like the sun flare and setup anyway.

I'm with you on this one. I love the way the sky is and the way the light is hitting the back of the car.

I love it. The composition is different, for a side profile I would never think of taking the shot on a bend/corner in the road but here it works, I still get the sense of motion. My only "complaint" would be showing a little more pavement under the rear tire and the hill in the foreground.

Coldmm... I couldn't really get anymore room. I had already climbed up the hill on the other side of the road and I was standing in the bushes on rocks. I also shot it at 70mm on my 70-200. I should have switched to the 18-105 but it was 18*f at 9000ft today, and I was freezzzzzzing!

I apologize before hand for a slight thread jack here, but there seems to be a great number of amateur and professional photographers that frequent this thread.

I have been watching camera deals unfold since Black Friday. I have found this deal and I was wondering would this be a good opportunity for a newbie to jump into the DSLR game?

$600 - Canon EOS Rebel T4i Digital Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens Kit

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...REBEL_T4I.html

I have previously only owned point and shoots but really want to pick up a new hobby. I have always wanted to get into photography but never had the time or money to do so.

Now that I am out of college I have a bit more time and can spare the cash to get into the game. So overall, is this a good "starter kit" for an inexperienced newbie?

Thanks in advance.

I would say yes, that is a good starter kit. I have the T2i and it has been a great camera for the price, however I wish it had the option of the swiveling screen that the T4i has. The automatic settings make it very noob friendly and it has all the manual setting abilities so as you learn more you can advance with this camera.

With the right glass it is a great camera. I traveled to Alaska this summer and rented a 100x300 L series for the trip. Paired up with the crop sensor of the T2i I was able to capture some pretty amazing (imho) wildlife shots. I have done everything from automotive shoots to weddings to your standard landscapes, though with far less success than some of the others in this thread.

I think the post from rzimm above is very much related to your question. It's not the camera that takes good pictures, it's the photographer. ANY camera can produce a work of art, in the right hands. With that in mind I would say the T4i is a great start to get into the world of dslr.

Fellow noob and Canon fan,
T

Great camera to start off on, I just recently started with a t3i, but you might want to look into the 18-135 kit lens. It will be better than the 18-55 and give more range

Well...there's a few issues with this photo that I'm sure I covered in the tips and tricks. The main one is the sharp angle to the photo, which doesn't really help the composition in any way. It also probably would've been better if you didn't cut off the car where you did, and if you turned the wheels to face the camera. Finally, the time of day is a bit harsh since the sun is shining really brightly on the car.

Haha not so much the clouds, but more just not having a blown out sky. I know it makes sense the way it is, but I personally would try to adjust it in some way.

I really like this one, especially how it's a newish modern sports car with a fading, neglected background. I think the car might be a little low in the frame, but it still works with the composition. If anything, I might try to make the car stand out a little more. I know you can't really change it, but since the car and the background are both pretty sharp (this is where spacing the car from the background helps), they kind of merge together and thus the car doesn't quite stand out so much. You might be able to isolate the car and process the background a little differently, but you just need to be careful about doing that so that it doesn't look unnatural.

The edit looks great, although I might go a little less pinkish. I know that the road is angled down, but the horizon in the background isn't quite straight...so I'd fix that.

I agree with this, and yeah I know you didn't really have any extra room. However, this is a situation where I would suggest moving the hill downward in the frame and then cloning over the road where it was. Might be a bit ambitious, but it's something that I'd try to do

This advice is very sound. My only addition to this advice would be to go to a camera store and try it out. See how it fits in your hands and if the controls make sense. There's no point in getting a camera that you won't be comfortable using. At the entry level, you won't really notice a huge difference in quality between most, if not all, of the DSLRs available at this price range, so it's worth seeing if a different camera works better for you ergonomically. I think I've said it a few times before on this thread that one of the main reasons I started with Nikon and stuck with it because it fit my hands better.
