Angry subaru dealerships!!

freakin idiots i swear!

allow me to explain...
when i bought my wrx, i purchased the short shifter kit and cheesy 3 gauge cluster package. the 2 dealerships we have in town basically edit elite cursing they both sell subies and volkswagens??? anyway, their service departments are backlogged for days on end with volkswagens and what have you. it seems as though subies get pushed back as far as priority goes. i wanted to have my dealership install my options, but they said i would have to wait 2-3 weeks for an appt.??? so, i called the other dealership. fortunately (initially) for me, the other dealership said they could do the install sooner. welll, being the impatient person that i am, i went with the other dealership. that was last week. on a previous post, i spoke of that dealership and their non-gauge installing selves. the mechanic screwed it up and the oil temp meter shuts off everytime i turn the lights on?? someone on i-club suggested that it was a miswired ground connection. welll, upon bringing the car back today, i past that suggestion onto the mechanic and the head service guy. both were incredulous by that statement. "look, we followed the color coded templates to a T the harnesses connect to this color or connect to that color. it's self explanatory!" welll, something ain't right 'cause the edit elite cursing don't work! the mechanic ended up telling me that it was a defective meter??? upon which i replied..."how can it be defective if it works [as long as the lights aren't on]??" he said, "it must be a short of some sort". riiiiiiight. the head service guy went on to say, "okay, we'll just order a whole new cluster and then go from there"...when i told him i didn't buy the car there nor the shifter and cluster, his toned changed dramatically. "we really can't help you on this...you're gonna have to go back to [other dealership] for a replacement cluster...sorry!"

as i pulled out and drove away (cursing madly), i wondered what kinda edit elite cursing dealer was this? a few minutes later, i pulled to a redlight. as the signal turned green, i started to apply pressure to the gas pedal when all of a sudden, i felt a 'yanking' feeling on my foot. apparently, the mechanic didn't bother to tie up all the loose wires and vacuum hose. it got tangled on my foot and i ended up yanking it out of place!!! ...along with some other wires.

immediately, i drove straight over to the dealership where i bought the car. when i tried explaining what had happened, the service guy at my dealership said, "welll, you should've gone to us in the first place...lets see how does 2 weeks from now sound?" [expletive expletive expletive!!!]

why is it so hard to find good help?

as for the gauge...i don't think it's defective. in the diagram on the gauge installation instructions, the gauges are placed turbo - oil temp - voltmeter. i believe the doofus mechanic didn't bother to distinguish which was which during the installation. i still believe he miswired something somewhere.

the moral of this story -- you'd think a subaru dealership would know how to install OEM subaru parts!

sorry, i had to vent...

Man... save yourself some time, hassle, and sanity. Just do it yourself. For the most part, Subaru accessories are extremely easy to install. If you really don't feel comfortable doing it, then ask around in the proper forum for your region and find a fellow Subaru owner that is willing to help you out.

Default wellll...

i would've done it myself HAD i the right tools and the TIME...neither of which i have at the moment. i just ASSUMED that a subaru dealership would be competent enough to install OEM parts. so much for that assumption!

Post gauges

Not to defend dealerships or anything, but I had an autometer guage that did the same thing you are talking about...even though Autometer has a good reputation of quality and reliability. I sent it back and they sent me a new one (very quickly and no questions asked by the way). I installed it just as I had installed the first one and it worked. They never said what the problem was with the old one, but I'm guessing it was a defect or a short. Who knows, maybe your guage also had a short.

Regardless, dealerships do suck.

Exclamation only warning you are gonna get...

Elite cursing and cusing in general are not allowed on this web site.

if you want to do that, go somewhere else.

i just spent the past 5 minutes editing your post...

do that kind of garbage again, and earn a vacation.
that type of language will not be tolerated...

i understand you're angry....
but try to be a tad more mature about it in future posts.

thank you
