Default 2006 stage 2 STi, STi Mikey Tuned, 303whp/339wtq

Event: dyno pull
Location: closed highway
Ambient Temp: 40
Elevation: 0
Weather: cloudy, occasional snow flurries
Tires: Stock
Car: 2006 WRX STI
Tuner: STi Mikey
Dyno Info: Airboy
Peak HP at RPM: 303whp @ 5110
Peak Torque at RPM: 339wtq @ 3970
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: ~225whp
Target Boost: preferably in psi: 20
Target AFR: 11.0
Fuel: 93 octane
Engine/Power Modifications: HKS Exhaust, K&N Typhoon SRI

STi Mikey took his time tuning my car. He introduced me to the Romraider and Airboy software, showing me their fundamentals. We started off with a conservative basemap and worked our way higher into the horsepower and torque numbers. He tuned to obtain a smooth power curve while keeping key parameters such as AFR's and boost in line. He wasn't happy until everything looked right and I was satisfied- and that I am.

LOL. Juan, I cant think all out as I do with my car. My 07 with vf43 only made 350wtq on that strip of road on 93. I kept the boost conservative, just wanted a nice curve. For now that is, as we will attack it later with a few more mods after Andrew purchases a truck for DD purposes.

The car felt great, almost made me wanna go back

Thanks guys. I'm really enjoying working with these cars. I can't wait till Andrew gets out to the track!!

Ron, 10% is more than fair being that you taught me 75% of what I know. The problem is as of now I'm only taking payment by way of hot wings, lobster bisque, and Amstel light. Do you accept regirgitation??? HAHA, thanks for everything sir.

Oh man they are just damn delicious. I kick back 10 of those mf'ers just at dinner

I think Andrew bought a Hallman pro MBC today. His car responded very well last night, and I feel that its going to be a contendor on race gas.

He'll be joining us at the track in the near future. This kid can drive too boy!! Ever see an STi with just a catback nail a 1.69 60ft full weight?? Yeah, he made it happen

Wanted to but the snow was incoming. BUILT did a car awhile back with the ots stage 2 map. It made 255whp as a baseline. It trapped 104, as did Andrews STi.

Butt dyno sure felt like a solid 40whp at least.

Once the air fuels were straight and i went at the timing and got:

285 whp
294 whp
312 whp (too much fall off)
303 whp with a nice graph

Gettin the air fuels right made the car feel great by itself. The wideband would just bury at 10.0 (as rich as it goes) and stay there from peak torque through redline.

I can give you some advice. I wanted to learn both the subaru and mitsu ecu's and available software about two years ago. The only thing I had was a good relationship with my tuner, Junior, and nothing else.

I probably asked him a million questions over the two years. At the end of the day, if you handed me a laptop I would still have been clueless, and very nervous to flash a car.

One day, after I had spent all kinds of money on a built motor and large stock location turbo setup, I decided, "Fuk it"

I literally went into a base map and flashed my car 1,000,000,000 times to see how it responded to changes made to pretty much every single table that can be tinkered with. As I made changes, I logged, and later had questions to post in my thread on nasioc.

Basicaly I can tell you what you can read in any book. But its when you say "F it, I wanna learn and I dont care if I blow my car up" ..this is when the real learning begins.

UPDATE: Just got another tune from STI Mikey with my added Hallmann Boost Controller. He took timing out in the lower rpm range to account for the added boost delivered by the boost controller. More timing was added on the top end as illustrated by the nice flat dyno curve. The car is faster than ever- check it out!

sexy curves! mikey, how do you like the hallman as opposed to an ebc? i noticed ed@eq has a lot of success w/ them as well.

Tuning wise......a mbc makes everything a million times easier.

The stock bcs is trash......a nice ebcs is pretty easy to tune....but u still have to deal with varying wgdc's and turbo dynamics settings between different brands.

The $75 hallman removes ~10-15 maps that you have to mess with. Makes life much easier.

Pretty much what Ron said. Andrew's car was spiking pretty badly on the stock bcs so i called it quits at 20psi and he was happy. I told him if he wanted to be happier, get the hallman.

Junior and Vaus always have success with them, and they seem to work VERY well on the 4 or 5 cars I have tuned that have them.

Just great units!!

The only things that I don't like is how the boost limit varies with the weather and how spiky is with small turbos

I thought you wanted more torque buddy

Honestly the tune is not super aggressive. I have seen in some cases 1-2 degrees more peak than what I have in the car right now.

We did pull after pull after pull. IAT's got up into the high 70's low 80's, and there was no feedback what so ever. With this, I set up the IAT timing compensation tables to begin pulling timing at 90 degrees F.

The car is running Stop'n'Shop 93 octane, I chit you not

I told him to use Sunoco or Shell from now on for Im sure a bit more knock protection.

I ran 22psi in the car, and a nice linear step up from peak torque through redline.

With all this, I wouldnt necessarily call the tune aggressive, but it sure took some timing for the flatness upstairs.
