Default 99 impreza lightweight flywheel?

Hi again everyone. I'm just looking for some opinions/answers. I have my transmission being repaired, it had a seized bearing in it. But while it's out of the car i'm going to replace the clutch/flywheel and i'm debating on the ACT prolite 10.6 lb flywheel with an exedy oem clutch kit. and I've done tons of research on lw flywheels and chatter etc. is there any combo that won't chatter? I don't mind increased engine noise, but i can't stand chatter or weird vibrations. any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, glad to hear that they found the root cause of your tranny issue. I would NOT suggest the ACT prolite as it is too light and will cause issues starting from a stop. The street lightweight flywheel is the better option but is a bit more expensive compared to the kit in the link below.

I have some experience with a stock clutch and a lightened flywheel/F1 racing lightened flywheel for an impreza 2.2.

It was just as smooth as a stock clutch and flywheel but I was able to shift faster because of less weight of the flywheel, less weight and momentum = slowing the engine down just a bit faster when I pushed the clutch pedal in.

I would do a new stock exedy unit and a lightened flywheel like what is in this kit.

So the ACT streetlite flywheel wouldn't cause any chatter/shutter/noise problems? I've tried to do my own research but its mostly hypothetical talks, i have heard horrible things about the F1 though.

I've had a Fidanza flywheel (which is <10#, as I recall) on my car since 2002. That included with a somewhat "built" EJ25D (cams, ported heads, etc), and a stock-ish EJ25D (just CAI and header/exhaust), and with both a 5MT and a 6MT. I've never had any issues with it whatsoever. I've had a couple of different clutches on the car with the Fidanza - first a Clutchmasters stage 1, then something else that I can't remember, then the 6MT went in with an OEM Exedy) and I have never had any clutch chatter at all. I still remember that I stalled it the very first time I tried to get the car moving after having the Fidanza installed; after that I've never had an issue getting it moving in the ensuing 11 years. I don't have my maintenance records handy, but that's probably 150,000+ miles of daily driving, road trips, auto-x, drag strip runs, and track events.
