Subaru Stars '00 2.5 RS to newer STi

Hi guys
I joined this forum in 2000 as a new 2.5RS owner in the Chicago area. I participated here for a couple years and then my baby was totaled in a rear end / t-bone combo crunch. I drifted away and never really reconnected with the group.

So almost ten years later I find myself in a position where Im craving another 2.5RS but using a modern turbocharged engine. Yea, this was probably the thing to do 6-7 years ago but I didn't have the will or resources to do it then.

I think about the time I stopped visiting the forums there were some piggyback systems being developed and whatnot. I have been searching the forums for swaps and really haven't found a definitive answer on the best approach to get where I need. Seems like there are some swaps that use full harnesses and complete nervous system transplants.

Right now, today, what direction should I go with this? Im really only interested in upgrading an 00-01 coupe, not really interested in the true wrx.

Thanks in advance, and yea - I did use the search button a handful of times before writing this

Try www.rs25.com. Seems like all the "love" is there.

Look in the for sale area. Just buy one someone has already built, unless you want to do the project yourself. I live in Colorado and we have a few very good swappers in that area. The cars will be priced close to a wrx/beat up STi, but are a lot more fun to drive. I think in the last few months I saw a few 2.5 with nice turbos/custom tuned stand alones/6 speed/5x114.3 cars go for $15k or under. Good luck!

i did a full 05 sti swap in my 98rs. unless you find a good deal on a wrecked sti (my case). its gonna be expensive! but now i think it was well worth the money and trouble. its not to common to see a sti swapped gc8. it surprises a lot of people. great fun!

hope you decide to swap

Haven't been on here for a long time after selling my WRB bugeye but my plan is to buy an impreza L and a wrecked WRX and have a sleeper check out copart for some wrecked WRX or sti.

P.S. As what everyone says you'll save alot doing the swap yourself rather than a shop but you'll learn alot about the engine and maintenance it yourself down the road. So my future plan is Craigslist for a GC8, Copart for a wrecked WRX and last but can't forget Iwire for the harness wiring conversion.
