Default find a 2011 now or wait for 2012?

my current situation is a bit complicated. i realized i was financially capable of owning a wrx so at the beginning of this month i started to look for 11 wrx's. sorry i dunno the appreviations

anyways, i am having a lot of trouble finding one i like. my color options are extremly limited due to dealers have only 1 wrx on the lot and not knowing when the next shipment will be.

i have found one close to be but the listed online price is 30,000. the wrx is a premium model and is black.. to my knowledge this is a tad bit more then the msrp but when i called the dealer it seemed as tho the price was firm.

could anyone share their input on the price of this wrx? is this a fair price? i understand that dealers boost the price because the lack of avilabity with this car.

i leave for school at the end of the month so i have a limited time in finding a 2011. this leads to my next question.

should i just wait for the 2012 and be patient

my understanding is the 2012 wrx's will be identical exterior wise with some changes with the interior.

i am willing to wait for the 2012 if i am sure that the model will remain the same and the base price for the 2012 is similar to the 2011's.

what do you guys think?

I would just wait and be patient. The 2011's are selling for OVER sticker price right now due to their scarcity. Just wait until Subaru gets their production back to 100% and you will save thousands once the WRX's starting hitting our shores.

maybe it depends on where you are, but i'm still seeing 2011's selling at near invoice in TX.

Wow, that's crazy. Here on the east coast they are way over sticker, and the dealers won't go down on the price much because if you won't pay it somebody else will.

Thats a lot. Premiums could be had a few months ago for roughly $26,000-$27,000 easily. Obviously options add up if they are there though.

I wouldn't pay $30k, but that's just me.

I can't believe you can afford a 30k car when you can't spell or communicate in an intelligent manner.

My .02 cents.

yeah im on the east coast as well and the prices are outrageous. seems to me waiting is the best option if the 2012 is going to be the same thing as the 2011.

You mean your parents have 30k, but yeah you're balling out of control while you 'are about to start school'.

Pro-tip - If you continue to communicate like you are text messaging everyone, you're going to go nowhere in life.

Good luck to you, thank your parents for the hookup.

if Subaru is doing anything close to what Honda and Toyota have been doing, they will drastically decreased production of their cars/parts since there's no way to catch up with production numbers by the end of the model year. So in turn, by the time the 12's are available for order/sale you will undoubtedly get a better deal as far as pricing goes and since most of the factories are beginning to return to normal it may be to your benefit to hold off until the 12's come along.

Ohh okay. Any idea when the 12's will be here? Every dealer I've talked to doesn't know or says something different

Also call around to every Subie dealer in your state. One of them should be willing to sell one for at least sticker or a little over invoice.

I was fortunate to find a WRX Premium 5dr in the color that I wanted and only paid like $500 over invoice and got an additional 1k off from the dealer I purchased it at a week ago.

If you can wait, the 2012MY WRX will be the same.

I've been calling every where, even within 150miles from me according to cars.com. Basically, they all say that they just sold their last wrx on the lot and they don't know when they will be getting more.

Im leaning towards waiting for the 12's so I can get the color and model that I've always wanted.

That is true. I think the 2011 wrx hatchbacks look the best if I had to say. That's why I want to be sure that if I wait I'll be getting the same body style.

Keep in mind that the earth quake in Japan has interrupted virtually everything there. Typically, new Legacy based cars come early because they're built in Indiana (like May of the year preceeding the model year), but Imprezas are far later in the year. Normally September, but this year......who knows. I think you'd want to consider that they are going to be trickling in for a while.

Welcome to NASIOC. Sorry about these guys....it's sort of the culture here to discount the intelligence of anyone who types like they're texting.

that is true but im hoping that japan will get themselves straigten out with the 2012 wrx's.

i still think it will be easier to find a 2012 wrx because i'll atleast be able to order one if i have to. ive called several dealers and asked if i could still order a 2011 but they said they arent taking '11 orders any more.

See if the dealer will do a trade with another dealer. I was able to get my 2011 WRX SWP Premium for 27k. It was traded from a dealer in Texas. I had to wait 5 weeks because the cars were still not here in the US. Dealer here in IL traded an incoming STi for my WRX. Once they hit port the 2 cars just exchanged destinations. Hope this helps. Good Luck.... either case 2011 and 2012 will be the same.

PS.
I got my WRX 2 weeks ago.

it's a few hundred bucks to fly to TX.
Ping the TXIC sponsor (gillman) - see if they'll cut you a good deal.
Might end up being notably cheaper than just getting one locally.
You'll be dealing with a NASIOC vendor as well.
(Worth a shot if you're that interested in a WRX soon - esp if the idea of a road trip sounded fun. haha)

I got my 2011 WRX premium in the color I wanted in April for $1000 under invoice in Jersey. There's may be hope! Otherwise, just wait for 2012. They usually come out sometime at the end of the year.

Instead of being a prick hellbent on proper grammar, I'd like to thank you for your service!
Good luck on finding a WRX. If you can wait, I likely would. There have been a few serious tweaks each year, so I'd imagine waiting a few months will get you something an entire model year newer, for the same price.

2011 is more rare so it will have a higher resale value later on. 2012 is the last year of this body type and it is never a good idea (for resale) to buy a car before a body style change. Find a 2011 or wait for the 2013. Thats the best answer.
