Default Where did you guys put your phone mount? 2018 WRX

Yo! I just got a 2018 WRX and there doesn't seem to be a great spot, from what I could tell, to put your phone mount. I had a mount that goes into your optical drive, but it just ended up blocking that big screen.

I bought a cheap vent clip mount and I'll be trying some other spots when it comes in. Where do you guys put your phone?

I got a magnetic mount that goes in the vent and I put it in the vent directly left to the screen. Itís not the best but itís closest to my charger..but then again I realize thatís kinda dangerous when shifting. No good place

Just took a look at the WRX interior. You have the two vents above the screen. I have the 17 Impreza Sport. It has two vents along the sides of the screen. The vents on the Impreza are more slanted while the WRX vents seem to look more traditional and flat with the horizontal vents. Due to the fact my vents are slanted and vertical I had to get a vent holder that was flat. So I bought one that has a ball joint which allows to have the phone mount flat on a slanted vent. I highly recommend this vent holder. Its very well built and has a strong magnets. You can position the phone any way you want and angle it towards you for a better view. Here is a photo of the vent holder I bought off of Amazon.

I mounted my magnetic mount under my HVAC knobs at the top right of the cubby hole in my 2016 STi. This puts my phone only a few inches away from the car charger in the cubby.

It's further away from my line of sight so it doesn't distract me if I get a notification.

I also have a retractable USB-C cable since I hate cords everywhere.

I got my mount today and I'm going to be trying the top right vent above the infotainment screen. I'll try out some other spots too.

You should use the Left vent. Have the phone in the Landscape position with the plug going towards the steering wheel. That way you wont be blocking anything and the plug wire will be out of the way.

Iím looking for similar ideas. I currently have a window mount for my Accessport stuck on the mini triangle window on the driver door.

Is there a technical term for those ďball mountsĒ? Iíd love to be able to swap out my AP for my phone in that spot. I might get a two-tab phone holder to swap in

Other ideas would be those long adjustable flexible arms that attach to the seat rail bracket bolt

I just donít like vent mounts personally. The heat and cold isnít good for the phones. Specifically Iíve had a phone turn off due to cold from the AC during a road trip. I didnít realize it until we tried to see how far we were from the exit. Luckily we had time to boot the phone back up and didnít miss the exit

2016 wrx. Right below the right-most center air vent, next to the change audio mode dial/button, there is a small spot big enough for the wizgear 3m magnetic ball joint mount

I turned my left vent off (the vent mentioned above) and have not had any phone issues in just over a year of using it. I got the magnet mount on Amazon, I think it was 2 for $8. I have one in my wifeís GTI as well since Waze doesnít work on Apple CarPlay.

Check out the mounts I found from Amazon. The three links are few post above. They are all suction cup mounts with the magnet phone mount.

I thought about getting the scosche vent mount. But it doesn't have that swivel point like I wanted. So I just bought a cheap one for 13$ or so on Amazon. Works great.

I use an 18" gooseneck mount bolted to the front passenger seat rail. This was recommended as the best solution in another similar thread on NASIOC, and I'm happy with it.

The one that I have is below, but it went up in price since I bought it.

This one looks like it's just as good.

I have this --> iOttie V2.0 placed right above the left side dash vent in my 18 WRX. I had it prior hanging from the windshield in my last car. Love the mount, it's very secure.

About to tune the car and get an AP tho, so I'm thinking I'll have to change this setup as I don't want to lose the vent on the left side and I don't want to suction anything to the windshield.

Thinking I may keep my phone in the same place as it fits nice and it is larger (Galaxy S8) and i'll fit in the AP to my current setup. Will post pics at that time.

I will get a picture of mine set up later, however I magnet mount arm that also has the 12v connection, plugs into the 12v plug. I have it mounted in the 12v under the HVAC controls and the arm over to the right of the shifter (CVT). I made the choice to have it there out of sight (out of mind) but still easy to access if I needed to and still able to attach a USB for AndroidAuto

That's a great idea! I actually have one similar to this and I was putting it the CD player where it suppose to go but I don't like it blocking part of the screen so this would be a great alternative, thanks for sharing!

I ended up buying this Arkon dual T tab mount for my phone. It fits an iPhone 7 Plus with a case. Itís the same window mount for my AP so I can unhook it to swap em out. Very sturdy and doesnít bounce at all.

The cheap magnetic vent mount I had laying wasnít strong enough but Iím sure quality ones would work. I thought about adding some earth magnets to this mount but itís very sturdy so Iím gonna leave it.
