Cool 97 outback sohc ej25D to ej205 / wiring?

Hey all this is my first post and my first swap as well. I have a 97 outback with an ej25D and a jdm ej205 sitting in a garage. The physical swap is all and good but what about the wiring? I know I've seen dozens of threads about this wiring but for the love of me I can't find it so I am at your mercy

  • How similar are the sensors?
  • What will I definitely need to worry about?
  • How about the ecu? Am I better off running an aftermarket ecu, finding a cheap usdm/jdm ej205 ecu, or running oem?
  • Fuel pump?
  • Transmission? I've heard the outback tranny can actually take some abuse and the gearing is longer. Could I use stock transmission at ~250hp without killing myself?
I have many questions so feel free to blast me with information. All help would be incredibly thanked

You will have to do a merge to get it to work. The engine management and wiring between the two is very different.

You would be fine with a EJ205 ecu instead of going with a full standalone aftermarket ecu. If your JDM engine has AVCS then the USDM EJ205 ECU will not run the AVCS. But you may want a USDM ECU if emissions testing is required where you live.

Upgraded fuel pump is recommended; I run Walboro 255s on both of my swapped Subarus with no problems.

Your Outback transmission isn't really any more or less stronger than a WRX transmission, just different gearing. It should work fine for you.

Good luck!
