WRX SEDAN... PM ME!

Question What is the deal with people falling off the STi "waiting lists"??

It seems like people are falling off the list left and right.... I was at the local Subaru place yesterday and they had 2 STis there and offered me one on the spot....

They are black with Gold wheels...

From the looks of it the "waiting list" is beginning to crumble... my guess is that in a month or so you will be able to get one for NO dealer markup and possibly even below MSRP

Just like with the EVO VIIIs ... Hmmmm....Maybe the slow economy??? Or maybe people are starting to realize they are paying nearly $38,000 and it's still a Subaru/Mitsubishi...???

I think I will wait a year or 2 and pick one up for $24,000 - 26,000 used... Plus... I don't EVER want to deal with Subaru on a Warranty issue from the looks of things... and I know EXACTLY how Mitsubishi handles their warranty issues... so I will NEVER own an EVO!! EVER

Probably a bit of everything. Some people who were initially interested in an STi might have gotten a different car (like the Evo). And many probably realized that they actually have to pay for the car if they want it. While it's a bargain for a car with this performance, paying/financing $31,500 is still a lot for most people. Add taxes, insurance (won't be cheap!), and I'm not surprised if a lot of people reconsider, especially as long as the economy is this crappy.

I don't think it will take very long until dealers will be happy to sell them for MSRP.

Another reason may be due to the fact that the customers may have to wait until the summer months are almost over before their car comes in, and just wanted something new right away like an impulse buy instead of a wait and see when they come in kinda tactic. I don't think that cost is too much of a factor since the average price of a car is about $28,500. The Evo, Infiniti coupe, 350Z could be a reason, but there is alot of markup there as well in many instances.
The economy too, is still flimsy. Many folks are nervous about their jobs being there in the years to come.

I don't know, but when I just went to the dealership, they told me I may be able to get a black one 'cause they couldn't get in contact with the owner. But I'm not crazy about black cars(hard to keep clean), so I went ahead and put a order in for a different one. They made its seem like they wouldn''t have any trouble getting me a car on allocation, so people are definatly leaving their ordered cars. I would say, "its a shame" but it just makes life easier for the rest of us, so no complaints here!

As the old saying goes; "Money talks, bull$hit walks".

Many of the folks that were taking up space on lists appear to have been full of so much hot air and/or uncommited.
There have been a few that went EVO too.

But as mentioned earlier the flat economy and failing job market have most folks focused on their rent/mortgage payments and unable to treat themselves to toys.

Their loss, our gain...and even less reason to pay a dime above MSRP.

That's exactly it and the whole Magazine car shopping thing. This really shows who is and who isn't a Suby enthusiat. Back in Dec 02' many people heard and dropped $$ for deposits then after the magazines countered their hopes that the STI is the magazine racing winner and picked the EVO, they all either went to the EVO or bought something else and don't want to be embarassed when at a car show.

Out of deference to those slightly less fortunate, lets recognize that there are some who have truely fallen upon hard times. Not to mention new owners of '02 & '03 WRX's who are upside down in their loans and so forth. I'm sure there are some folks out there that brown bagged their lunches and cancelled cable/DirecTV in order to save up a downpayment (and reduce their debt ratio). But even still due to reasons out of their control had to walk away. Those folks are Subie fans and what I refer to as 'owners by proxy'. Those folks get to ride & drive through the words & pictures as posted by actual owners.

But those 4G63 blockheads who talked all kinds of game early on and then switched to the EVO after the magazine reviews came out...well all I can say to them is "How's that clutch & tranny holding up these days?".

Their Subie fan card & credentials are revoked.

Honestly...I think there were a lot of dreamers and magazine racers out there. The EVO won a lot of the mag tests and these lemmings actually believed what they read. Sorry, but for the extra $1500 you get a much better car with more goodies and Subaru quality.

Personally I never put down a deposit or got on a waiting list because MSRP wasn't released until very late and the fact I still haven't sold my Civic hybrid.

At this point I might have finally found a buyer for my Civic. Not to mention the STi was priced within my range (I promised myself if it was UNDER $32k I would do anything I can to get it).

Now, if my buyer for my Civic follows through then my dream might become a reality. I guess it would all depend on what the dealers would be willing to give me in trade for my current '03 WRX.

Wish me luck.

LOL...you must be thinking I have one of those econo gas saving Civic (Insights). Hybrid (half gas powered/half electric)

I built up a '92 Civic hatchback. '94 Integra GSR engine/tranny swap. They just call them hybrid swaps. Very fun car, but I'm sure your employee's wife wouldn't be all that interested. hehe.

Ohhh...you meant Hybrid!

No dudes wife is thinking the new '03 Civic sedan with the hybrid gas/electric powerplant. Although she might be interedted in your swap setup if it came with a Honda warranty. She drives stick exclusively and owned an '80's vintage 911S but is now looking for something more reliable and easy on fuel.

3 months of unemployment and a trade value on my 02 REX that blows is my reason for backing out. I will eventually get another Subie but not this year...

Apparently this backing-out stuff isn't a universal problem. I haven't heard from my dealer about anyone dropping off of the list. He said he'd let me know when mine comes in. When the deposit went down he said either July or August it'll be in. So, perhaps I'll be getting one sooner if anyone here drops out. So far I'm still waiting!

The problem with waitlists is...the wait. In January, many of us would have bought STi's on the spot, perhaps rashly. Many would have to sell them becasue we couldn't really afford them. A lot of the people on the lists got on them because they could possibly stretch their budget and afford the STi. Once they consider insurance, consumables like tires, etc., they realize that they could have 90% of the fun in a WRX for ~10k less, without sacrificing all of thier disposable and entertainment income to do it. The wait sobers a lot of people up.

The other problem is, this car isn't as universally appealing as its price competition. The 350Z, G35 coupe, 325ci, etc., all offer less performance for the $$, but appeal to a wider audience because of the styling and amenities.

Have a good one.

Certainly isn't hapenning at my dealership. Only got one so far and it was sold to the guy #1 on the list. Being #3 kinda stinks but maybe I'll be able to switch from blue to white. White looks so good with gold wheels.
