Default Yellow Fogs with not so yellow light output? Help.

I always liked the look of a WRB Bugeye with yellow fog lights. I picked up a set of the rockblocker yellow lense covers and installed them. When I installed the rockblocker I also installed a set of PIAA Ion Crystall yellow tinted H3 bulbs. I wasn't very happy with the PIAA's so I got a set of Yellowstar H3s that I got from rallylights.com. The Yellowstars were much better than the PIAAs, but both lights are more of a pale yellow than a true deep yellow, like you see on older European cars.

I am on a fence, because on the one hand I think that what I am looking for is not going to be as bright of a light and therefore will defeat the purpose of my foglights...but on the other hand image is everything.

Does anyone know what I am looking for.

Yeah...that is not what I am looking for...dope car though (it is always nice to see an 04/05 NOT rocking the ridiculous STi Hoodscoop)!

About the lights, they are more of a gold than yellow...very deep rich yellow...not very bright. It is probably not an H3 bulb.

Searching the intarweb for pics now...

Grab a set of stock h3 bulbs. The double yellow tint, one from your rockblocker, and your bulb being painted yellow is probably causing your output to be diminished. Doing both is kind of pointless.

I have the headlight armor covers and JDM sylvania ultra(clear) bulbs, and it makes my light very yellow.

do you get hassled by the cops with your headlights covered w/rock blocker in yellow? After I did my fogs I wanted to do the headlights to match ala LeMans style but just assumed I was asking for trouble.

the yellow film looks soooo good with the WRB paint.

^^ In Connecticut, forward projecting lamps can be white, amber, or yellow. So yes, for his car, being in Connecticut, the yellow lense protectors are legal. ^^

I noticed on rockblocker's site they don't have foglight covers available for the 06-07. True?

I use rockblocker (yellow) with my nokya yellows, and they are a very nice yellow. You could always find the stained glass spray paint at craft stores and spray them on in layers. About 5 coats will be a true yellow.

Something like that retrofitted to your fog lamps, using the rockblocker film and a standard H3 bulb should get you the color you want.

Its kind of a joke really, all it is is just flat plastic. Just find one that is bigger than your lense and trim it to size. The ones that they make for the 04-05 WRX are actually too small and leave some white around the edges, so I am going to order the 02-03 ones and trim them to size. I'm sure you could do the same for your app.

I have yellow bulbs in mine too. I never knew that using the whites with yellow RBs is acually better for getting a deep yellow. I like the way Lexus foggies look. But they also have a yellow glass lense.

Yes...I agree. Bright is not what I am looking for...I am looking for a bulb that gives me the deep gold light that the older european headlights give off.

I tried switching back to my original stock h3 bulbs but they didn't cut it.

Has anyone seen an IS300 at night with it's fog lights on? Is that a result of the coloration of the lense or the bulb?

Lens. IS300 is a projector just like ours, but it has a yellow projector lens between the bulb and the outer lens. That's why it comes out so rich. The closest we can get with that is to double up the rock blockers and use a regular white h3 bulb.

The older Alfa Romeos GTV's, and Mercedes that you are referring to had a standard light. However the clear lens was replaced with a yellow glass one, and they had an H3 bulb under it. Euros started doing that in the 60's I think.

I second the Nokya yellow bulbs. I thought they were just yellow enough to look good without being gaudy...

No prob brotha'

I'll be doing the dual rockblocker+reg H3 as well.
I'm going to get the '02 wrx/obs one becuse they are bigger and you can just trim them to size ('04-'07). Don't forget the finish them off with the heat gun/blowdryer (all).

I wasn't impressed with the skimpy rockblockers that were for the 04/05 wrx. They only covered the middle and left a white ring around the sides, looked very tacky. Shout if you need any further help.

Oh, and go here for your lights. They will save you $$$. That is if you don't already have the whites. The $3 ones at the bottom of the page work just fine. They outlasted the $20 ones my roomate got from Autozone.

I kept my stock bulbs from a regular autoshop and it looks like it has a pretty good amount of yellowish light.

That's why I suggest rock-blocker. More of a true yellow.

No...those are the bulbs I took OUT of my car because I didn't like the way they looked.

I am currently using rock blocker with Hella Yellowstar bulbs, I reinstalled a stock H3 bulb on the passenger side fog the other day to compare it to the hella, and it didn't look that much different, much less light output though.

I like the idea of doubling up on the rock blocker. However, this is pretty low on the list...maybe after a few other things...and I am bored.

Thanks again for the help everyone! I apprieceiate everyones input!
