Hook up a scanner and go to live data and do a on car live data test drive the car around with scanner hooked up and see what reading is abnormal such as air/fuel ratio maf readings egt to high etc and go from there then after you find and fix I would change the plugs and oil cuz all that unburned gas your were pumping into your combustion chamber had to of past your rings into your oil thus breaking it down somewhat

Let's see if I recall this correctly from my RX-7 days...
Black smoke - Rich, fuel Grey smoke - Coolant, normally head gasket Blue smoke - Oil, normally turbo. Sounds to me like something went MAJORLY wrong during your show-off period. If you got all three smoke colors, I'd be very, very concerned. Start with a compression test. If needed, follow with a leak down test. Remove the turbo and inspect. Heck, I'd probably even use a borescope and do a visual on the engine internals. I can imagine very few scenarios where you'd get three different smoke colors. Hrm... I'll make one up. Spark plug broke, sending the unburned air/fuel into the exhaust manifold along with the tip of the plug, which banged around in your (water-cooled?) turbo, unbalancing/damaging it enough to leak coolant and oil... But even with that, you'd only see the dark smoke, not three different variants. |

Cars are complicated machines that go far beyond yesteryear's mechanical adjustments.
Though a forum like this one can convince many rookies that bolting on parts and paying tuners (there's one on every street corner) is always a safe bet, it isn't. Then many of these guys with failed set-ups blame the car (not it's fault) or expect Subaru to back the mistakes the owner made (not Subaru's fault). There are no Subaru ricer owners. There are no Subaru ricer owners. There are no Subaru ricer owners (repeat several times a day). |

Thanks for all the info, I had a 2004 wrx stage 2 and everything was fine using cobb. The car is at the tuner and wont be looked at till monday. They said its the BOV VTA causing the issue. I'll def get the oil changed and change the pluggs. The dealer looked at it before it was towed and said everything was ok and not damaged, so Idk what to expect, maybe the WORSE?

prepare for the worst just so you don't get blindsided if a ringland or something common with these cars is blown. I've had a few issues with my '11 and then ultimately cylinder #1 was out-of-round (which eventually leads to the broken ringland issue) at 17,000 miles. Stage 2, AEM intake, Perrin recirc BPV, Process West TMIC, and a lightweight pulley. Paying the cost to be the boss right now and putting everything back to stock for break in... again. I hate to put in negative vibes or get you down about it, but some of these are lemons and some are animals that will last 200K. Just gotta make sure before going nuts with it I guess and there's really no way to tell. I hope it all works out for the best man.

kinda went and jumped right into things huh? tuned? ....TWICE?! bov? down pipe... damn!!! now you have a brand new car with no warranty because they more then likely reported you to SOA :-D ... an a car that will not run. stock BPV is ALL YOU NEED. Read about it you will find out not only is it the best thing for your car it also shoots air back into your intake that you NEED so you do not run rich in-between shifts or revs... ask the tune shop whoever tuned your car for your map on a usb drive and let me see it .... surprised you didn't get a MBC instead of a bov

ok, I am going up tomorrow or maybe tonight to put my stock bov on and see if that fixes it. If not, I am going up tomorrow early and seeing what they say. I will get the map on a thumb drive. Thanks. No one gets that my dealer is ok with tunes, idc what people think but I got three cars from them and two others for my family members. All my tune ups and oil changes go through them. I am a neat freak and take care of my ****. Thanks for the info though. MBC?

chadws85. Do yourself a favor. Make the switch over to 3gwrx.com. The folks over there are enthusiasts of our generation of Subies. This site lacks in the honest advice department. Nasioc exisits for people who think they know what's going on to show off their so-called web penises. Welcome BTW.

So....uh....first thing, that you are doing in removing the BOV, is heading in the right direction. While you're at it, might as well put the stock intake back on. Then get it retuned.

Not to mention they tune your car, and THEN tell you to get more parts so you need a new tune? wtf is that? Now your motor is putting out smoke 3 days after you get parts they told you to get? Sounds like a shady shop to me. |

Two pages of thread here and there are maybe a handful of helpful answers. The poor guy has a problem and he turns to the community for answers, not a bunch of B.S. Sheesh...

Yeah...we've been a little hard on the beaver. I'm not surprised with the intro post, but still.
Keep us posted. I'm willing to bet you have a MUCH bigger issue than just the bov. Your internals are likely in bad shape given the smoke you're producing. Replacing the bov isn't going to fix that. I'd start saving for a major project. |

we're being hard on him because him putting a bov on probably had a lot to do with his problems. if he had done ANY research, he'd find that it's bad for his car. chances are, the tuner he went with had something to do with his problems as well. again, research may have saved him as well.

It's also too bad he hasn't filled out any of his location info so that someone on here can point him to a proper tuner in his area.
