i think hes trying to get across that alot of people here arnt very...welcoming to us noobies. When i used to browse forums about my eclipse, there was a well knit society of people. Everyone knows subarus have the best community of people. Everywhere i go i wave, be polite, ect. But on the web, it seems like we cant get a word out before being flamed to oblivion. Other sites that i go on to post are much friendlier, even if the post isnt even relevant or smart, we still get pointed in the right direction. As you can tell by my post count, and even join date, Im a lurker. Maybe just maybe someday ill be good enough to be amongst the great.

As I sat there, pondering my intelligence after handing over my credit card to be swiped and charged over 5 dollars for a latte, I couldn't help but wonder whether the pastry I just ate would be considered a danish or a turnover. I never attended another Starbucks.

Come here and search for the needed information and you'll probably find it.

Start new threads only when necessary and with discretion.

Take information from people that obviously know what they're talking about (you'll quickly figure out who these people are), ignore anything starting with "i think" or "i've heard".

Take ribbing or 'flaming' in stride and with a light heart. Laugh it off, don't take things personally. This can be a seriously snarky, clever place to hang but I rarely witness it get truly ugly.

Finally, realize it's not real life. Just the internet. If you get miffed, just Google 'nic cage cats' and come back recharged.

I see both sides. When you are on here more than once a month, you see 100 posts a day in the wrong section, asking the same questions that have been answered 50,000 times already, or asking an opinion question like "should I buy this car" or stupid ?'s like "how can I make my car that I have had for a week have 500 hp for my $1500 budget?". The search function works great and of the 40 million posts on this site.

Have you seen "West Coast Customs"? (don't worry, I have a point) There are always fights and yelling and screaming ego's flying out of control. There is a reason for this. These guys are 'the best' at what they do (or at least damn good). When you have a bunch of people who are really good at what they do, egos flare up and feathers fly if you push the right buttons. It can get frustrating treading through the wealth of info on this site. Trust me, I know.

I am not saying that your questions are stupid or you don't know what you are doing. The folks are harsh on here, but once you spend a couple hours reading and learning the ropes, they are damn helpful when you need them and know how to ask nicely.

If you think its bad here, try off-topic for a couple minutes...

agreed man,

for some reason when it comes to this site, help is hard to find unless its in the search section.

when you ask, you get murdered.

so just ask and hope someone will chime in.

OP I hope you end up staying on man, just be kind and ask polite and everyone on here will have your back.

everyone else, please stop encouraging this negative attitude and behavior. You guys all know we arent like that.

You have to sift through the nonsense. Asking the question in the right section is half the battle. Ignore the stupid remarks and usually about 3-10 posts down someone posts something helpful.

Never take anything personal - its a forum not a popularity contest.

That's true, you don't have to be here long to see that happen.

The other side of that coin, however, is that more experienced members could either 1. ignore the thread and move on, or, 2. post a link to the thread where the question has been answered.

Instead, you often see people that have to stroke their own egos by posting some line of garbage that does nothing but attempt to belittle the newb. That's no better than asking the stupid question in the first place.

ETA: When I was in the service we had a saying, "Wish in one hand, ***** in the other one, and see which one fills up first."

I agree. When I first came here I figured 99% of the people on here are d*****s and it still holds true. I come here to learn and not get rude and condescending responses worded like they are coming from a pissed 14yr old on call of duty.

But that's the car community and it happens on most forums. It helps all the egotistical feel good about themselves while scaring all the new people out of the car culture

Interesting... I've been on here for quite a while, and I've never been "flamed" or "B*t*h*d" at. Maybe it's because I don't start stupid threads and I try to not ask stupid questions that have been answered eleventy billion times already. The more stupid crap that is posted on here, the harder it gets to actually find what you need.

Lighten up... it's just the internet.

Its not only stupid questions. You'll get flamed if you don't stick to OEM / OEM + / JDM modifications

Maybe you weren't around a week or two ago where some idiot asked about a fake chip, was told it was crap, chipped with it anyway, and blew up his engine. It was a smashing good time.

To be honest the only people I see getting flamed are the noobs that don't search before they post or believe they are right even when they are told they are wrong. Ever question you need an answer for is on nasioc or Google it. Its that easy.

Its only the internet. You don't know any of these people so don't take it to heart.

I've only been on here for a few months too. Like one of the previous posters noted you will quickly find out who the experienced people are and most of them get tired of telling us newbies to "search" first. Now after exhausting the search and there's still something you don't know...ask. Be prepared to be flamed even by the best of them on here. At least you will get closer to an answer. In Zen Buddhism they will whack you with a flat stick if you have a lapse in concentration while you are meditating. Even in such cases, it is not considered a punishment, but a compassionate means to reinvigorate and awaken the meditator.

I will gladly take a beating on the path to gaining knowledge. Go ahead flame me but read the stickys first!
