I would think the FWD bias of the Ascent is the advantage.
WRX 6MT VC = 19/26
WRX CVT VTD = 19/25
Ascent CVT Active = 21/27
I don't think the WRX power is based on torque limits. It already has more power than the competition, so they don't need more. It's still the highest output of any WRX. Plus more would just get even worse MPG. Golf R isn't Subaru's benchmark. GTI/Si are.
