Default Drat. Need new Rear Bumper Cover.

This morning I decided to back into a piece of granite which was considerably harder than the plastic rear bumper cover of my black 2001 Legacy GT and not only scratched it deeply, but also peeled a decent part of it off.

Dealer says a new one is $230, are there any aftermarket bumpers that would look cooler?

Also, Since I haven't done this before, what steps should I take to ensure that it's painted correctly -things and places I should go to or avoid? Thank you for your time.

Well Chris,

I like the look of the B4 Legacy rear bumper. Does anyone know where to get one?

Also, when getting it painted - go to a privately owned body shop with a good reputation. Avoid places like Maaco and commercial body shops. My yellow Camry is proof of that!

In my garage, I have the original black rear bumper cover off my 2000 GT.

It is in good shape, except for a scrape on one corner, and a slight indentation in the middle from the license plate holder of a Taurus.

Make offer if it'd be useful to you.

When the shop replaced mine, they ordered and painted it while I kept the car. When I went in to have it put on, the said their paint didn't match the Black Granite Pearl on the rest of the car. I couldn't see a difference, but they insisted that they should repaint the bumper. They took my gas filler door, and used that as a sample to match the paint. Two days later I went back and they were happy with the match, and put the new piece on.

Find a shop who cares about the quality of their work.
