Default 04 STI 6 speed into 03 WRX and vice versa

This mightbe the stupides question ever but here it goes. I want to put a 5 speed ppg tranny into my sti and I want to put my 6speed from my sti into my 03 wrx. will i need anything extra or will all parts swap over? Can I use my sti axles with the 5 spd? can i use the wrx axles with the 6 speed? rotors etc?

Thanks in advance

Well, knowing that the PPG 5 speed is a good option for some needs and the 6 speed is better others....maybe the reversal of the two is better for this guys needs.

I don't think its a stupid question at all.

Maybe call a dealership and get the specs /differences? If the length and spline count are the same, than you should be able to use them.

They will swap over..

You will need a 3.90 (06-07) R180 rear for the sti. You will need a your wrx driveshaft (I think you can use it with an adapter for the R180)

You will need the mount for the trans and that is it... Your DCCD is going to be all jacked up and your WRX won't be able to use the DCCD unless you have an aftermarket controller.

I'd be concerned with that power and a 5 speed, not the gears the case..

Wrong on the R180. The 2006-2007 R180's are 3.54 (39:11) because the 2006-2007 6MT has a 1:1.1 center diff. 1.1x3.54 = 3.9 final.

It's the 2004-2005 R180's that have a 3.9 (39:10) rear diff and a 1:1 center diff.

Sorry I meant he needs the 06-07 STI R180 to match his 5mt PPG box for the STI. Like you said the 5mt will have a 1.1:1 center needing a 3.54 rear..

Should have worded it better...

Wirelessly posted (LG Voyager: Mozilla/4.1 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; ) 400x240 LGE VX10000)

I guess it depends on the year of the PPG box doesn't it? If it's a 2006-2007, it will need a 3.7 rear diff and I don't know of any R180 with that...

His WRX is an 03... I would make a educated guess its a 1.1:1 or 3.54 rearend...

Then you will need a 3.90 RP for your R160 on the wrx... Rallispec or similar can do that or you can pick up an older 3.90 LSD R160.

You will need a 06-07 STI 3.54 R180 rearend for your STI to match the 5 speeds 1.1:1 center ratio.

Then your done. Most likely since you have an 04, axles will swap right over as the fronts should all be female. If not, swapping front axles from car to car would do the job.

-Jerod

When your done you will have a spare 3.90 FD R180 that is not being used unless you want to convert your wrx to fit the R180 (hubs and brakes.)

Awesome info guys thanks. So at what power level does the case become an issue? Right now I'm making 513 whp and 488wtq but when I build the motor I'll be looking at 700-650whp
