curious if they will stay the course or move further into hybrid/electrification territory.

With Bucky & Paris doing the presentation, speculation is a return of the 2.5RS which is a possibility since they just need to put the FB25 in there with a manual. I would rather have PHEV though. |

Probs just going to be another 4 banger offering the same powerplant options of the crosstrek. If they throw in a Hyrbid, then that right there is going to prove to me how much the EPA has SOA by the nuts. Cobbs power numbers on the WRX pretty much show, A: They tuned it back to equal what the cvt/spt can take, or B: EPA is actually forcing Subaru to Let off of the Safety kick, and begin improving their engines.

Again it's not the TR690 HTCVT being the weak link. It's the manual. Ascent is rated for more torque 1k more weight plus 5k towing capacity and higher payload. No manuals given. |

For some reason I always thought "Ahh is probably that dinky cvt" holding things back. But that is a great point. So with cobb throwing higher numbers with the manual (SPT not compatible), does that mean its more of a carbon rating issue? or just the Wrx was never meant to be a fast car like the STI, but just a regular turbo sedan for anyone?

Is it really so much that the WRX 6 speed can't handle the power or is it really about Subaru limiting failures (warranty claims) from improper usage of the WRX 6 speed? i.e. clutch drops.

Or is it MPG? The ascent is a "truck" as far as EPA is concerned, and therefore low MPG hurts a lot less since the targets are higher.

I assume you mean the WRX, not an Ascent (Active AWD). I'd think 45:55 should be more efficient then 50:50, no? My guess is the difference is weight. Either the SPT weighs more, planetary gear center diff might be heavier than VC, or they used a GT model. Recaros, dampers, who knows what else (maybe more sound deadening?).

That will actually be quite if all they do is put the 2.5L n/a in there and try to market it as performance. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

They had plenty of time to work on better engines but they didn't make it a priority like every other manufacturer in the industry. So, yeah, now, EPA and CARB are holding their numb nuts . Subaru can't blame rules and regulations; they can only blame themselves. |
