Default Is it possible...

I am wanting to put a cheap LCD screen, with RCA jacks and all the usual stuff on a tv, in my car that will prolly flip down from the roof(or anywhere I can think of to mount it) and have a VCR or my PS2 hooked up to it. I believe I could get the video part of it fine, but how would I have to hook the VCR or PS2 into the car's speakers? I would want it so that I they would both play at the same time, I wouldn't play them at the same time, but I want it to where I don't have to unhook one or the other I could just turn the one I'm not using off. Is it possible to do this and how would I have to do it?

although it is not recommended in any way, you can just Y 2 inputs to a common input on the headunit. Just get a Y splitter and hook them up.

How would you have to do that with a stock HU? I don't really know if I follow what you are trying to say. Thanks for your help!

well, i don't think that the stock HU has actual "inputs" you might be able to pinout the CD player/changer DIN and find the acutal audio inputs, but I'd just buy a HU with a line-in

You couldn't directly hook them to the speakers as they have line-out drivers that are mainly just voltage, not enough power to push a speaker to any audible range. You need a receiver somewhere.

Does the stock HU have an input in the pinout? Where could I get a copy of the pinout? And can anyone else think of any possible ways to make it work? Thanks!

The stock HU normally comes with a CD unit beneath it. My guess is that the CD unit transfer's the audio to the main unit via standard analog audio. My guess is that the input is just preamp. In which case, it shouldn't be hard to pinout with anymore than a voltmeter and knowhow of what you are looking for. 2 channel stereo output...there are 2 varying positive leads, and 2 varying negative leads. one for L+ one for L- one for R+ and one for R-. The other pins would be power again, one +constant voltage and one ground.

Ground is easy to find, continuity between pin and HU chassis, IMPORTANT: check with DC volt meter to make sure that voltage is 0 before checking continuity...connecting +12v to ground in a car is not a good idea.

finding the +12v should be easy, ground one probe of the meter, and with the other test each pin while the unit is on.

finding the input leads...same thing, DC volt meter looking for about < +2v and a related negative. (I doubt the input is more than 2v preamp)

-----
Thats about the best I can give you, you'll probably blow a few meter fuses in the process...hit radio shack with a $10 first =D

I took my stock unit out, I could possibly play with it, but I think trying to track down a pinout would be faster.

When i say "ground" I mean car body/HU chassis. You should do all of these tests with the radio on.

use a FM modulator - this one has dual frequency settings so you need 2 of em - one for the ps2 and the other for the vcr:

http://www.digitalww.com/FM_modulator.htm

then feed the video signals to these babies:

http://www.digitalww.com/LCD_TM_701V.htm

each one has dual video inputs so you can switch between the vcr/ps2.

yeah...but thats the easy way =P

-- edit --
I'm just not a big fan of FM quality. I'd rather direct wire the outputs to the inputs...

then you're gonna have to suck it up and buy an aftermarket radio with aux inputs.
