Default I want to port & polish a stock wrx turbo myself any tips?

So I have way more time then money and access to a work space and all the tools. Lots of experience polishing aluminum on my 91 GSXR 750 and steel (I majored in machine shop at OCC)

My WRX came to me with 8 bent valves and I rebuilt the heads myself and the engine runs great. So I can take stuff apart and put it back together.

I have done multiple searches on this subject and what I found was people wanting to know where to get this done. I found a couple people with positive reviews of Deadbolts work.

It sound like its worth it I just want to do it right.

I have an extra stock turbo laying around.

So here are my questions

To do this right do I need to take the turbo apart?

If disassemble is required will I need to replace any seals or O rings?

I read a long time ago about how someone used a high temp paint on the exhaust portion if the turbo to stop rust.
Can anybody recommend a paint?
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If I go through with it I would take pictures and share all the info and results here on the board.

Thanks -Scott A.

I searched multiple times
I tried PNP turbo, port and polish turbo, port polish & used "any date"

Before I start a thread I always do a search. I don't want to ask a question that has been put up a 100 times.

Default search on the web

If you do some searching on the web there are also some how to's you should look at.

Here are a couple, how to's and images you may want to look at:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/turbo/turboport.html
http://www.turbomike.com/trturboport.htm
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/i...6gs-ported.jpg
http://www.extremeturbo.com/garrettdsm.php
http://rz-products.com/WAYNE/UPDATES/update40.html

I'm sure there are others this is only a few minutes worth of searching.

Take your time.
Plan exactly what you are going to do before hand.
Be aware of the thickness of the material in area you are working so that you do not remove too much material...causing a weak spot.
Be careful with your tools and wear eye protection.

Carbide burs will make the job go much quicker. The down side to them is that they cut really fast and you have to be careful not to take out too much. The pics in the above link were done with a die grinder and a dremel with the flex shaft attachment. For bits on that one I used two diffrent grits of grinding stone, two diffrent grits of sanding drum and two diffrent grits of flapper wheel.
