165 hp and 166 ft/lbs torque
The newer Japanese spec engines have 276 hp don't know about the torque, but it should be plenty.

Altough turbo'ed 2.5's have been known to put out cloe to or over 300hp/300lb-ft of torque.

Default If you want to boost the car don't buy a 99

the 98-99 cars have a maf sensor prone to failure when turbo'd. Check out the back issues of Sport Compact Car Magazine. They have a 99 they claim to put out 300 hp. In europe they call impreza's porsche killers! Good Luck!

Only the 1999 RS's have MAFs that blow up
the 98s were a wire MAF, they were fine as far as I know.
and the 99s use a film type MAF that blows up when you change the filter, don't even have to turbo it, and no, they are not interchangable

ummm...a guy with a rimmer kit (less power than turbo) was kicking a 911's ass.... not gonna happen if it was a turbo 911 though

:P the tranny should hold together for at least a few weeks....plenty of porsche ass kicking in that time

ummmm, they have STi's in europe not our measly 2.5RS's and those are most definitely porsche killers. and it doesnt take much in mods to make them 911tt killers either.

blanka the new impreza WRX's are now available here with 227hp. the old 2.5RS's only had 165, but they are very torquey engines for 4 bangers.

this thread desparetly needs to be moved to the newbie forum.
