Default Can i put an STi engine into my 03 wrx?

i have an 03 wrx and i was thinking how much of a sleeper it would be if i could put a newer STi motor in my car. Would i have to swap transmissions as well? How much money would the swap cost (engine and trans)?

Also, can someone tell me the names of the diferent engines in subarus? Like ls1, ls2, l67, lt1 for GM but for Subaru?

thanks

A cheaper alternative would be to just swap the block for a STI 2.5 liter.

Yes you can put an STI engine in an 03 wrx without swapping the transmission. Your power will be limited though because the wrx tranny can support only around 300 hp. I would recommend doing kaaz gears. The swap cost would depend on whether you were going to keep the stock wrx cams and heads or go with the sti cams which have avcs subarus version of variable timing. It also would depend on where you got the motor and whether it was new or used of course. Finally the subaru family of motors are ej. The 2.0l are ej207 for the jdm, I am not so sure of the usdm wrx and ej257 for the sti. the 20 and 25 state the displacement.

cant i just pull my motor and put in an STi motor? will that motor mate up to my 03 manual trans?

what is the 2jz motor?

also, the guy above said something about the block, does that refer to the entire motor?

edit: motor motor motor

a wrx with a wrx sti engine does not equal a sleeper !

2jzgte or whatever is the toyota supra engine...

if you wana reserach this more..use the search button...a lot of people have done swaps..it is a long and tideous process unless someone else(a shop or skilled mechanic who knows jap wiring) is doing the job... it is also a pretty expensive project

u have to decide how much you want to swap out of your wrx to make it have what the usdm STi has
use the search button..search for usdm STi swap into wrx/bugeye/02-03 whatever..plenty of info on this on the board

i don't know much about swapping, but there have been a lot of thread on here lately...the worst part is wiring..the new engine just drops right in on the same mounts

from what ive read so far it looks like not many people have swapped an STi engine into their wrx but the engine would match up just fine. its just a big wiring hassle?

dollar for dollar would i be better off just modifying my wrx?

Just buy an STi and put a wrx wing on it and paint your brembo's red.

Or better yet, buy an STi, get a front mount, and put a 2.5 rs hood and trunk on it.

do a built internals on the 2.0...upgrade the gears, then put a ball-bearing turbo on it, and get a good dyno tune. Money well spent...

If you couldn't afford to purchase an STI, you really cant afford to assemble an STI.

The cost difference between the two initially would probably easily pay for the swap.

yeah, i came from a grand prix gtp (L67). when i came into that community (www.clubgp.com) it was fairly small and only a few key people were starting to make go fast mods for the L67. i spent 3 years learning about the GTP and basically following the come up of the L67 aftermarket. im having a really tough time learning about the wrx because the community has soooo many members and there seems to be sooooo much to learn about the impreza. searching has its limits because there are sooooo many topics and its hard to find exactly what i need but im trying
