Post how long til the auto gets "smart?"

the auto i got seems pretty confused...sometimes when I wanna pull away hard from the line, it just kinda goes... and sometimes when im just pulling out of the garage it just hauls ass like no ones business right when i don't want it to and in a fairly dangerous predicament(ie hitting the maxima in the drive way almost!)
how long does it take the auto to "learn" one's driving patterns? It's got 2500 miles on it so far.

Mine depends all on the gas. If I get cheap gas then when I slam the loud pedal down the car just sort of crawls up very very very slowly..... When I've got good gas in there it will rev up to redline and haul ass out of the way. I can never tell when it is going to do what when I mix cheap gas with good gas. I've found that the larger BP stations have good gas, man I got some lousy stuff on the way up to the beach this weekend, I only went about 150 miles on a full tank of gas. It sucked. On the way back I got some better stuff and went 320 miles to the tank.

I've found the same thing with different kinds of gas and my forester auto... for a while I was using texaco 87, and not getting very good mileage (18-20); but a little while ago I put in some diamond shamrock, which I thought wouldn't be as good, and got 23 mpg! With similar driving! I think I'll be avoiding that texaco station in the future...

I've also noticed that sometimes it's sluggish off the line, and sometimes it just jumps. This is while I was consistently getting texaco gas from the same station though, so I didn't think it had anything to do with the gas.

As it breaks in it's definitely more willing to rev higher though, it took until about 2500-3000 miles (I'm at 4500 now) but it got much more responsive, and will go to redline if I push it on hills.
