programming new alarm remote
Have any of you gone through the gymnastics of programming a new remote alarm/door lock-unlock (key-faub)?
I tried following the instructions according to the manual and didn't get anywhere. The dealer wants $48 for this service. I'd rather avoid that cost. Thanks.

I've done it. The way the manual says to do it works just fine, you just have to keep trying until you get it right.

I've done it too. You really have to make sure you follow the manual step by step. I goofed it up a couple of times before getting it right.

Remote instructions
What year is your Baja? They changed the remotes twice during its run.
Go to this link and click on your model year for programming instructions easier than those in the manual: http://www.cars101.com/baja.html |

I certainly thought I was following the instructions precisely. But upon completion of the first set of steps (ignition from lock to on and back 10 times) I never heard the audible confirmation. I repeated this early phase of the programming about three times and couldn't get that sound.
Of what source is the sound? Is it the same beep that indicates the drivers seat belt needs to be fastened? |

If I remember correctly, it's the alarm siren beep.

It should just be the keyless lock/unlock sound. The step where you have to turn the key, just keep doing it until the car does it. It doesn't have to be exact or anything.

Here's a question, do you have to program for a battery change as well, or just a new unit?

You don't have to reprogram the remote for a battery change.

Reset? Unlock all doors, cycle key on-off 10 times until horn honks, leave key in ignition, open/close door, push any button on remote, open/close door and push button on 2nd remote. Got this from a subi website, i did it just fine, bought the extra remote on ebay for 6 bucks
