Default did foglight mod, now i have a problem

i did the foglight mod. grounded the yellow/somethign wire coming out of the fog light switch and connected both the red/green from the switch and red/green from the relay in the black relay housing the a green/yellow switch in one of the relays on the left of the fuse box. well, fog lights are great but now my dash lights don't light up when i turn the headlights on

what fuses and or wires should i check? is there a certain wire i can just run to something else that's hot when the headlights are on?

thanks

i should mention that everything was working fine this morning on my way to work but on the way home things were fishy. when i turned on the fog lights the a/c blower would turn off and i didn't notice that the dash lights weren't lighting up until i got home to try to figure out why the a/c blower was turning off.

also, if it helps, for some reason my parking lights aren't coming on either.....

Question

when you get in the car , try this. turn the key all the way on, just dont start the car. turn the headlight switch on and see if the ABS light comes on, if it does, you have a blown fuse. when i was tryin a lighting mod, i blew a fuse. it was under the dash. just get the cover from the fuse box in the engine bay and use the fuse puller and check for any dead fuses in the engine bay and under the dash. if you find it, replace it with the appropriate fuse. hope this helps.

also, what does that mod do?

Well you did something wrong. It's been a while since I did this mod so I'll have to do some checking to see what wires you got mixed up. I had the same problem as you like ak wrx was saying you probably blew a fuse. I know that the gound isn't needed and I think that you need to cut the green/yellow and splice it into the red/ green. Like I said I really don't remember the color of wires but I'll check it out today and let you know if someone else already hasn't. In the meantime I would put it back to normal and check your fuses. I blew a fuse in the box under the hood.

the mod i did makes the fog lights completely independent from the headlights meaning i can turn them on without the headlights being on as wellas them staying on whenever i flash the high beams

i did what you said and the abs light flashed for a second when i turned the key on (i assume normal) but when i turned the headlights on hte abs light did not come back on. i assuem that means there's something in the wiring and not the fuses :-/

also, i should note that my drl's are working. apparently it slipped my mind that they turn off when the e-brake is on....

http://scoobymods.com/forums/showthr...ght=fog+lights

thats what i did, but instead of sending both red/green wires to the orange wire, i put it on another because it wasn't working spliced into the orange wire.

Default diagram question...

Before I start this mod, I have a question.

The diagram from Scoobymods, is it the same as the one I hand written?

See the NEW WIRE below looking like a loop than the above wire looking like a Y-wire.

Tools/things I have:

-Screw driver
-socket wrench
-10" piece of 14gauge wire
-14gauge butt connector
-a couple of quick splice(is this the same as 14-16 gauge splitter??)

Also as an alternative, instead of having one 'quick-splice' attached to the orange wire, can I have two 'quick-splice' spliced into the orange wire? one from/for the relay and another from/for the foglight switch?

TIA

Equivalent for this purpose. That is unless the "Y" wire has a special inductance or resistance property that it should have. At least that is a concern when the wire carries high frequency signal, which is not the case here, afaik.

looking back at scoobymods.com tool requirements, I dont see any Y-wire, just the 10" 14-16gauge wire. So, my interpretation is correct then. I dont really know anything about electrical stuff, and I just found out how to use the 'quick-splice' yesterday

Thanks

the diagram you have drawn out will work fine, as long as both green/red wires are touching the orange wire

the problem i had is that mine wouldnt work with the orange wire (unless i was using the wrong orange wire) so i spliced into a yellow/red wire, but it all works perfectly

make sure to disconenct your battery before doing anything. that was my mistake, but it only cost me a couple fuses so all is well

yellow/red wire, I'll keep that in mind just in case the orange doesnt wanna cooperate.

thanks a bunch everyone.

Ran into one problem but corrected my own mistake:

I was using the wrong wire for ground. The wire coming from the actual foglight switch is the correct one instead of the wire going to the dashboard.

Orange wire worked but I needed to push it more to my 'quick-splice' since my 'quick-splice' size was 16-14 and the orange wire is 18.

NOW....

When you turn on the switch on top of the steering column, parking lights, flash to pass, highbeam...the foglights stays on. Foglight can still be turned off independently thru the master switch.

I think the author of the foglight mod in scoobymods needs to change the diagram. It seems like there should be a Y-wire, which was never mentioned in "tools/things needed" and confuses n00bs like myself.

Amen.
