Default mild steel vs. stainless steel

What are you thoughts on equipment made from mild steel vs. equipment made from stainless steel?

Mild steel unless treated in some way (i.e. Ceramic coating, High temp paint) will rust rather quickly, but it is cheap and easy to make sharp bends with.

Stainless looks real nice, takes forever to rust, but is spendy and is generally more brittle so it is hard to make sharp bends...

Any performance/HP difference between the two? Weight difference?

Stainless steel parts make way more horsepower because they are prettier.

So that means that I can add some blue lights to my stock exhaust, and put a mini wing on the muffler tip to give me some more power? .......Or maybe I should add another hamster under the hood?

The only think is that SS will last longer if mild steel is not coated. SS also looks nicer.

The only thing that really affects performance is the type of bends, inner diameter, and coatings to retain heat.

Another factor to consider is also the gauge of piping used, as it will affect the time it takes for the rust to go through it (un-treated mild steel). Generally T304SS systems will probably outlast your car's lifetime (given the proper gauge pipe) and same type of use on both.

Some grades of stainless retain more heat than non-treated mild-steel.
