that was a great tribute you posted, being that i was only 16 when it happened but was on the train a few blocks away from when it happened and went to school on 60th street and could see the flames and smoke, this day always brings back painful memories. but reminds me of all the heroes that risk there lives and gave there lives for our safe being and freedom.

I was a freshman in College and was actually on my way into NYC via the Path in Hoboken that stopped right at the WTC. We were supposed to be going to pick up some products for some installs we had lined up that weekend until I got a frantic call from my Mom. I'll never forget when she called me to tell me to go pick up my 9 year old brother and start heading towards my uncles house in PA just in case something else was going to happen and she'd catch up with us later. May God rest the souls of the innocents that died needlessly on that tragic day.

Does anyone remember back in the day when they were in the Newport Mall area it literally looked like the towers were a block or two away. They were RIGHT THERE. Now even with all the construction and big lofty condo's they have down there, it still feels like there's something missing.

Agreed. I always feel like there is something missing when i look downtown from NJ.
I was also a freshmen in college and was almost right across the river from them all the time. Saw right after first plane went in from the smoke on my commute to school. Many cars parked on rt.3 bridge near Giants Stadium. Saw 2nd plane go in once i was on the tpk. 1st bldg go down from my job at the time. 2nd go down when i was retreating to my mom in Paterson to make sure that she was ok. |

Never Forget- Never Forgive!!
My Wife worked a block away. She was on the Path into work that day and the train got stopped in JSQ. Her former company was shut down for weeks due to all the debris and clean up. They never survived and shut down. |

There are certain moments in life where you'll never forget certain images.
It seems like ages ago but was working on Ave. of the Americas and had driven to work that day. Coming down the west side highway about 15 unmarked cars came blowing by me at what seemed like 100mph. The towers were there one second and gone the next. The mass exodus of people just walking uptown and holding signs up "need a ride to the hospital" will be with me for life. Just thousands and thousands of people some covered with soot just walking aimlessly uptown as there was no where to go. The city literally just shut down all together. Certainly will never forget. |

I remember I stayed home from school that day. I turned on the tv and thought it was a movie, mainly because I thought something like that would never happen. It's a shame that it happend, and no one should ever forget the impact it left on the U.S. May those who perished rest in piece. They will never be forgotten.

Ill never forget it. I was a senior in high school. They let us out early. I went down to the beach in Westport CT and just sat as the smoke rose over Long Island sound in the distance. My good friend's father passed that day.

Sadly there are only 15 posts here. Just goes to show how quickly America has forgotten this. The President didn't even have the decency to show up for the Memorial at Ground Zero, he sent his 2nd in command. SAD. VERY SAD.

Here in Los Angeles for over a year now. Still haven't forgotten.
I saw some folks on the roads here who put memorial ribbons on their cars. The drivers at Streets of Willow shared a moment of reflection before we set out for our track day. We haven't forgotten. |

I was in two datacenter sites in Secaucus that morning. I left the first one after both planes had hit and saw the smoke while driving to the 2nd site.
It was chaos in the site, but I worked in a UPS room all day and had no clue what was going on. I did get "interviewed" by "dark suits with shiney shoes" while onsite. I guess the gov had servers in the site. That afternoon, I drove to Wayne via rt3, it was really wierd. No traffic, cars parked on the shoulder, etc. It was ~5PM when I finally found out the towers were down. I spent a number of nights, after work, at the WTC site helping clean up since I had skills that could be used. I would get home covered in what felt like talcum powder. It's tough at night at times, remembering what it looked like working in the rubble piles. When I would go to work, I drove over Skyline drive, every morning the towers would greet me as I went down the Oakland side. For quite a while after the attack, I was greeted by a smoke pall over southern NYC instead. Our town, as well as some close by, lost quite a few people in the attack. |

i remember i was at fort benning georgia going through boot camp...it was my first day of boot..just left the reception station and was heading over to our battalion and once we stepped off the bus our CO told us of what happened and for a week straight we pulled guard duty..the CO said that there would have been a chance of fort benning being attacked due to this being the only infantry boot camp for the army... this is definetly etched into my brain for the rest of my life...
my father was apart of the recovery detail. spent a week or two there...thank you to all that work ground zero..god bless you.. and my heart still goes out to the familes that have lost loved ones....thank you guys |

May we remember those who have been lost
This picture was taken for those who haven't had the opportunity to experience the memorial. The photo may never portray the emotions or the experience itself, but is intended to show others the amount of respect we have for those lost and for those who serve. |

I was in 5th grade at the time. I remember specificly being in spelling class at 9 o'clock AM and having the wind blowing into the room, moving my pages ahead and back. I had no idea what was going on. I remember looking out the window and seeing black smoke.
Later on, my dean said in case of an emergency or a bomb threat, please be calm. I had no idea what was going on, and I went about my day, with a wierd feeling that something was happening. All throughout the day, the intercom kept buzzing people down to the office to go home. I was one of the only kids that wasnt picked up. I had to be one of the last ones picked up from school before dismissal. I said to my english teacher as I was walking out that everyone must have doctor appointment or something... It was really, I dont know, funny... or ironic. I thankfully didnt lose any family in the attack, but I do know that one of my buddys mom died in tower 2. It was really sad. I remember walking out of school with my mom when she told me that the World Trade Center was attacked, and that she wanted me to be safe at home. I said to her, (and it really sticks in my mind because my uncle and I were having a debate on which building was better, the Empire State Building or the Twin Towers... I chose the Twin Towers... and also because I always loved the WTC, going to the top and looking down on the little buildings is one of my favorite memories as a child... but back to the story) "Is that my favorite building in New York?" I only knew it as the Twin Towers at the time, being so young. My heart dropped, knowing that my favorite building was destroyed. (of course being so young I had no clue that 3000 people were literaly cooked in a steaming inferno if steel.) So when I got home, I remember getting on the couch and seeing the replay over and over again of the planes, and the collapsing and seeing all the people running down the street, and seeing people jumping out the windows. ugh. Its just burned into my mind... even just seeing it on tv made me have nightmares about it. about 5:00 PM I was sitting in the back yard at my house with the radio on sitting on my dads lap when I heard that there was also a plane that hit the Pentagon and another that landed in pennsylvania. Later that night, I couldnt sleep, I thought that a plane was going to hit my house if I fell asleep. I went downstairs to my dad, and I started to cry, finaly realising that thousands of people died, and some people didnt even have a dad to comfot them that night after the huge tragidy that happened that day. This is my story of that day, I wasnt really specific, I could keep going and going, I dont know why I remember all these details, but Ill tell you, I will definately NEVER forget. |
