Would it be worth it to use a sandwich block adapter as opposed to the stock location? Is this a better spot? I want a oil pressure gauge but I also want to keep my dummy light as a redundant safety.

Replacing the stock sensor is a much better location to read oil pressure.

Super useful write-up, thank you kindly and awesome idea with the longer bolt for a 'stiff' mounting spot.
Gonna do the same for my '11 STI |

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I have the exact same setup. I didn't have the foresight for the fuse extensions. I couldn't wait, so I did the lamebrain stick-the-wire in w/ the fuse method. Functionality-wise it does work, but that shall be a temporary solution.
You can actually use the existing allen socket head cap screw and the lock washer/nuts that come in the package with the gauges to hold the boost gauge sensor attachment to the hose. That, and I was too lazy to take drive to the hardware store. .. . haha |

1) Where does the wire coming out of this box go? What does it connect to?
2) Is this box included with the boost gauge? Or is it purchased seperately? 3) I assume that this box takes the boost/vacuum reading and sends it out electronically to the gauge. Is this correct? 4) The only wires coming out of the gauge appear to be a ground, constant, switched, and dimmer wire. Where is the gauge getting the actual boost signal from? Is there a plug or something on the back of the gauge like in the BF series? 5) Where did you get your Defi Red Racer gauges from? (And would you recommend getting mine from the same place?) 6) Is there any place in particular you found to be an easy, out of the way location to mount the ground wire to? Great writeup OCD. This is what I was planning to do anyway except have Oil Temp and your instructions are helpful. Does Defi do a those gauges with white needles to match the Subie instruments more perfectly?

You could go super spendy and get the JDM Subaru Meter set (H5017FG011). They are basically Defi Racer gauges with white needles, no flashing on startup and no shutdown "ceremony". They aren't cheap but match perfect. Only downsides is that they are only available in boost (kPa - metric) and oil temp (degrees C - metric).

For anyone looking for those fuse taps, i think i found them on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT I just got a set of 5 for $17 shipped, assuming they are the mini size and not the larger size. |

is it normal for the boost to spike to around 15 and then drop down a bit stock? anyone have a stock acceleration vid with a boost gauge?

I think I did it
I think I've wired the defi boost gauge so that it does not do the double sweep during the ignition cycle.
To be totally honest it was by accident when I was fiddling with the illumination wire. for reference: 2011 STi Orange # 4 Red #24 White #14 I hope this helps... BTW here is the youtube: http://youtu.be/uxUkeY_po1w Last edited by CTSparky; 08-04-2011 at 11:58 AM. Reason: adding in the video |
