Default [Brainstorming] - Adding proximity key / pushbutton to USDM '11 STI

Hello world!

I haven't seen too many people ask this question, but the only key that I use and have on a keyring is for my 2011 STI sedan. I really like the convenience of a keyless/proximity key and noticed that it's an option (if not standard in the UK) on STI's

I've researched the part numbers for the panel with the push start button (both the regular and bright red STI button) but havent been able to delve too deep into what other modules i might need to make the proximity key and push start a reality.

Could anyone out there help / have any knowledge about the keyless system in the STI?

I'm wondering if it's simply a plug and play module that i'd replace my USDM OEM security box with, wire up the new button in a new facia panel and be done?

otherwise there is a decent after-market proximity module available with push start, but i'd rather go OEM. (and i'd still need the dash panel anyway)

any thoughts? it's a brainstorm, i'd love to hear everyones comments - thanks!

Curious question - but does anyone have keyless entry in their STI/WRX?

I have not seen any yet. Is it on 2011 models?

Keyless entry, we all do. As for push start, people have manually done it but not with a proximity key. Maybe a hidden master switch for the acc/on effect then the push button. If someone were to break in and find that hidden switch then they could steal the car no problem though. I'm thinking about doing it since you can still use a key if someone is riding with you and have the keyless start for leasure

Thanks for the replies guys!

I guess I'll have to go find the pictures i saw - the OE entry system consisted of a block-off plate over the ignition (where a key could be used as a backup) but the key is rfid (or LITE) based and opens the doors upon your proximity to the car (~2.5m). the push button start is located just above the interior light dimmer/headlamp aiming and side mirror controls (in the same facia panel)

it must be for '10 and up, or maybe even '11 and up... off to find those pics...
