Yes I seem to have acquired an sti shell that needs a motor. So I was thinking of putting my current motor in the shell and putting a better motor in the track sti. (which is still a DD) I have 2 short blocks that need rebuilding.
I have assorted parts and pieces I need to track down, some I have some I need to build a complete longblock.

I've been doing a lot of engines over the last year... seems to be a trend unfortunately
Personally I think that class action lawsuit against Subaru for bad engine bearings actually has a solid basis.
Just got done rebuilding an engine from a 2014 STi with 50k miles.
Another 2004 STi showed up last night for the same thing, but that appears to be a case of a bad shop doing the last rebuild.

If you're interested feel free to swing by one of these nights and we can talk options.

Forever is an understatement. This should be the first new engine in 15+ years.

Sounds decent. I just have to get a few things sorted with my car, but I might be able to make that one.

Call me interested lol. Let me know when is a good time for you. Pretty sure I bought a radiator and tires from you, but I think you have moved since then.

I've used a few of their new kits. No problems so far.
The tensioners are made in Canada and appear to be good quality.
Pretty much all of the sealed ball bearings I've seen are made in China these days. It doesn't necessarily mean they're bad quality.

I just pulled an engine on a car because the cogged idler fell apart and caused timing to skip. Japanese bearings.

I've never used that company before. What parts are you trying to use from them?

Good to know about the tensioners. I found that company while looking for a quicker steering rack, to see what the alternative to cutting stuff and putting in a '15 rack in.

I looked into that a while back. There was a company in Michigan doing it, but they must have gone out of business (q-rack).

If you want to swing by and chat I'll be out in the garage tonight. I moved, but not too far from where I was before. PM me and I'll give you my number if you don't still have it.

How hard would it be to put a 2017 sti motor in an 04 sti? Plug some holes, swap cams and reclearance valves? I don't want to use both the avcs just the one and try to use the 04 ecu.

It'd be far from an ideal situation. You could swap cams and cam gears and get back to a situation where cam timing is correct, but you could do it.

Why are you looking at a 2017 engine? Crashed car or something?

There was a cheap one with 2600 miles. Take out from racecar, looked brand new, but I think its gone now.

talonh20- are you still doing the Northwoods Shelby club track day at Road America at the end of April? I just signed up for the Sunday event. I will be in a white Infiniti G37S sedan with 4DR Z CAR on the plates if you are around. Looking forward to it as I did not get to do any track days last year because of a bad tune that took most of the year to get sorted.

Yes I will be there both days. 05 PSM sti probably the only 05 there lol. Car seems along way from ready, weather isn't helping any at all. Have to sort out powersteering problem (hopefully just a pump) coilovers and summer tires on and new rotors all around.

Cool! I have been away from Subaru's for too long. Is PSM = silver? For some reason I thought you had a blue STI. Sounds like you are getting the car all sorted.

I just swapped out the rear gears last week and next week I will be putting in a new radiator. Then I have plans for the grille to flow more air, a rain guard for the filters, motor mounts, rear subframe collars, seat SRS light, mount the summer tires, swap pads, change oil, diff oil, etc, etc... We'll see how much I actually get done in time. Now I am just focusing on having some fun breaking in the rear gears for the next 1,000 miles before I swap to better fluid.

Yes silver, last couple of times I was the only GD STI out there. Glad to see someone has more work to do than me lol.

Anyone know if one of the diesel turbo shops in the area has a balancer? I have a vf43 with about 5000 miles on it that had a piece of a header go into the compressor wheel at idle on the way to the false grid many years ago. I know I can now buy a whole cartridge but I think I might only need a replacement wheel.

There's a place in Neenah on the frontage road near stars that I've heard of people going to, but I think they may outsource it... Worth a call

talon- Good to see you at Road America. Hopefully, everything went well for you. My G37 held together and nothing overheated like last time. I was actually running good lap times for the car, but you would never guess with all the Stingrays, 911's, and M3's in my group. Keeping up with the old 911 race car and passing the V-8 RX-7 was cool, but everything else had so much more power than me in the long straights.

Oh snap! It's hard to see exactly from the picture, but did you snap a connecting rod? I just popped on here to see if you were going to do the Lamers track day at Road America on May 30th. I'm guessing.... maybe not.
