i've put wrx brakes on my '97 legacy L. it already had discs at all corners so it was very simple. everything bolted right up. I suspect that any brake upgrades that work for '02 ~ '07 WRX's will bolt right up to a 97-99 legacy.

fronts i needed wrx:
caliper brackets
calipers
rotor
pads

rears:
were the same, but i swapped them out for wrx ones since i had them anyway, I regret not doing the H6 upgrade at the time.

i have a 95 sedan legy, am i right to assume that since you specified 97-99 the 95-96 are different? (i was wondering this about the suspension too b/c in the thread about it they did the same thing and specified 97-99 but made no mention either way for 95-96)

btw thanks

I've actually been quite interested in a complete brake upgrade (rotors and calipers please). I'm no help I know, just interested.

What kinds of upgrades are possible as direct bolt ups?

Almost any Subaru brakes that are 5x100 pattern will fit.

I've upgraded from the stock 00 GT 10.7" to the 11.4" WRX, to the 12.4" 05 LGT, and back to the WRX brakes on mine.

The only thing you really have to be worried about its wheel size.

DLC you did this using calipers, rotors and mounting brackets specific from the donor vehicle?

I installed wrx 4-pots up front(I used calipers, brackets and rotors) fit no problem. In the rear I installed 2005 legacy gt brakes much larger and vented rotors (used calipers, brackets and rotors) fit, but had to remove the dust shields. I couldn't use my old wheels anymore, and for whatever reason if I double pump the brakes I get a much better bite (not sure if I need a bigger master cylinder or what).

I then put all my old brake components in my parents '92 legacy, everything fit with no modification. Rears if IIRC were about the same single pot and size. Fronts I believe were slightly larger and 2-pot, instead of factory single pot. They just couldn't use the 14 inch wheels anymore, so I gave them mine.

i've also done the WRX 2 pot conversion on my white 95, was very straight forward, except that i had to bend the dust shields back a bit because the wrx rotors were scraping on them. the rears, as has been said, have the same calipers, but the rotor is bigger so it has a taller bracket.

i do believe that any 16" Subaru wheel will fit over the WRX 2 pots, it's the Brembos, 4 pots and LGT brakes that cause problems for everyone.

Default what about a drum to disc changeover

Have any of you change from drums to discs? I have a 2000 Impreza L and would love to make it stop better. Ideas? Thanks.

go to the suspension / braking forum, their FAQ goes over the conversion from drums to brakes.

Calipers, rotors, caliper brackets and pads. Pads can be replaced with anything that will fit the donor brakes, but if you're looking for a used package, make sure it comes with the brackets.

sweet, so someone is selling a pair of 02WRX rear hubs, it includes:
- the disks
- the hub
- the back plate
- and entire e-brake assemly (minus the e-brake cable which i know is dif from disk to drum)
if i get that it sounds like thats all i need, well plus e-brake cable, and calipers.

anyone disagree? would i be better off just throwing the whole assembly on including hubs/spindles (i think it's the same thing) or might the hub/spindle be dif from the WRX? if no one knows i guess i'll find out lol

Are the hubs from a wagon or a sedan? The wagons are narrower than the sedan, and I'm not sur which fits.

Might be better to find an Outback or higher-spec Legacy with rear discs and just using those parts, to be honest.

the hubs are the same; it is the lateral links + axles that are needed to change the track of the car.

If I were in the same boat, I would opt for an h6 caliper (same as all recent rear impreza/legacy calipers), h6 caliper bracket, and h6 rotor.

more stopping power for the same money =

I'm using the 11.4" WRX rotors, calipers and caliper brackets. For the rear I did an entire drum to disc conversion, using H6 rotors & pads on first generation Legacy turbo calipers and caliper brackets.
Stainless steel lines, ATE super blue fluid, and a WRX brake booster as well.
Feels amazing!

as long as your car already has disc brakes, you don't need the hubs. in fact, i remember reading somewhere that wrx hubs don't bolt up to BD/BG/BK suspension. the calipers bolt up just fine, and all you need to worry about is the dust shields. the rotors slide on just like the regular legacy ones will, and then just make sure you don't try to force the pads on backwards.

if your car has rear drums, you'll need the knuckles/hubs for the rear, along with the e-brake cables, but otherwise everything will just bolt right on once you have those installed. 'course i say that like it doesn't take all frickin' day to do if you don't have air tools handy!

also, don't be an idiot like me and install the calipers on backwards! the bleeder valve is supposed to face up when the caliper is installed, you'll find out why when you go to bleed the damn things!

this is also a good time to install some stainless steel lines. i forgot to mention that if you are doing a rear disc brake conversion, you also need new brake lines for the calipers (lines are different for the drums). if you go stainless, ones for a '02-'07 wrx will work just fine if you can't find ones specifically for the legacy. i used Goodridge lines for a wrx fitment when i did mine.

I've done what that one legacy did, but only once. I knew it was a bit funky...

Stainless lines are easy to do when you're already going to have to bleed the brake lines. Invest in them, they're fantastic.

I am new to subaru building an would love to have a better handle on the nomenclature such as H6, BD/BG/BK and what year, model, option group these refer to. Is there some kind of 'who's who in zoo' for all subaru models posted? If not, I would be willing to assemble information provided to me in some type of useful lay out. Yep, the new guy just volunteered! Ugh...
