Famous Ford Tuner Has Big Plans For The Future

After Mountune was saved from the brink of collapse, it has an eye on more than just combustion.

The aftermarket tuning industry continues to grow from strength to strength despite weak economic growth in 2020, and while some have closed their doors, Mountune, based in Brentwood, Essex, Britain, has recently made some big moves to keep itself in the game, with an eye on moving towards electric powertrains. The well-known tuning company is responsible for some insane creations, such as a Ford Focus RS that produces supercar levels of power, as well as a Focus ST that makes more power than the highly capable Volkswagen Golf R. David Mountain, the founder of Mountune, and experienced industry investors have now gained full ownership of the Mountune Performance and Racing business, which means more capital for some interesting projects in the near future.

"It's widely recognized that the success of the road-car group, predominantly, led to a situation where the demand was outstripping the previous business's ability to supply and support our customers. Covid-19 simply served to compound the problem further," Mountain says. "It gives me enormous pleasure to be able to secure the brand both now, in its 40th year, and for the future. We can't wait to get back to supplying and supporting our customers and dealers properly and also embracing new technologies that will enable us to take Mountune forward for decades to come," he adds. With the new wind in its sails, Mountune will be looking to develop a clean, high-performance electric powertrain for road and race use.

The company, formerly part of a global structure is now completely free to pursue its own goals, and first on the agenda is to solely focus on racing and performance operations. "We want to get back to what we do best - making power!" he says. "Whether that be for our race teams, or for road-car customers that like to enjoy their cars to the full every day," Mountain concludes. The next few months will see the company increase its in-house installation capacity, and release more cutting-edge performance products. With a focus toward the future of powertrains, Mountune is certainly on the right path.
