Thanks. Yea, the clouds were starting to roll in as I was taking these so it was definitely a more cooler feeling. I'll try warming them up a little and see what that does.

Alright, so finally my sony DSC-T70 is dying (finally), and I'm looking for an easy point and shoot camera, (I can learn to fiddle a little). I'm no photographer but I do like to take photos and I don't know where else to ask this.

So I'm looking at a few camera's and was wondering if you guys can tell me which is pretty good for a newbie. Looking at about $280ish, maybe less (Pay for my own college as well, don't judge). I'm looking at Nikon N65 SLR, Nikon Coolpix P500, Nikon D40, Nikon D70s.

I'm thinking the Nikon D40 is the best suited for me as it is within the price range. But I am also considering a Nikon D3000 as well, that is $400, not sure if I can pony enough cash to get one.

Thank you thank you thank you for your help guys!

Would a D3000 be good? Saw one exactly in my price range, some of the D3100 are a hint to much, even if I bargain a litte.

STOP, and check this out. Adorama is a legit site, and is selling the D3100 for $305 with kit lens. Perfect starter camera at dirt cheap price. Both body and lens are refurbished, but they are basically new. I just jumped on a D3200 deal on there and my camera just arrived today. Only has 428 shots on the shutter.

ADORAMA VIA EBAY LINK HERE

Comes with 90 day warranty, or you can join their VIP club (free) and purchase a 1 year warranty for ~$8. Just have to purchase the warranty BEFORE you purchase the camera.

HAHA glad I could help you. It is a killer deal for an entry level. Just make up your mind fast, that deal won't last long, last time it was dead before noon next day. Then will jump back up to $350-$380 range.

I have been drooling over and messing with my D3200 all day. I LOVE IT. Tried to get out while there was still some light out and snap a few pictures to test it out. In auto mode because I'm a noob.

Played around with some settings in PS CS5. My goal the next few months is really learn manual settings and practice, practice, practice.

Constructive criticism welcome

^^ I think it needs tripod, were you holding camera? With it remotely dark at all need to hold super still or else it's not as crisp.

Has anyone had decent luck with gray or import models vs nikon refurb?

Interested in picking up a d7000 before my digital class fall semester.

Have access to the 18-55 kit lens and 55-300, both VR.

Would like to pick up a fairly fast lens with a fixed aperture, in the 18-200 range for action (panning, etc) and low light. Not sure how well a telephoto would work for landscape. Preferably under $600, would love to go full frame but paying for classes comes first.

Thanks

Yeah no tripod. As it was getting darker I noticed more and more noise as the ISO went up. I tried to park under the street light as much as possible just to get these quick images.

Any recommendations for a budget tripod? I know budget and photography are tough, as you get what you pay for, but I can't drop $300 right now. More in the $50-$100 range.

Honestly, a good tripod is definitely worth investing into... I have a generic (but expensive) tripod from Best Buy and it's not nearly as sturdy as I need it, especially with a telephoto lens on it.

Did a quick CL search in my area.

Bogen Manfrotto 3236 tripod with 3047 head (no quick release plate) - $75
3001BD Tripod with head - $40
Manfrotto 3021B Pro (055Bpro) with 322rc2 grip head $175.

Any of those worth the small investment, or keep looking?

I would recommend that. I just ordered one. I used to have Ravelli AVTP but that was way too heavy for my use so I'm switching to this. I've heard a lot of good reviews about Davis & Sanford.

I have the 3021 legs. They're pretty solid for the price. I don't have a pistol grip head though. I just have a regular ball head. I think the grip ballhead like that would be a lot easier to use.

Thanks, I contacted him seeing if it is still available. It's a bit of a drive, but seems worth it for that combo.
