Thumbs down TFATF effect is outa control

I don't support street racing, but this is going a bit too far. Just saw the B section of the Merc newspaper. Looks like Freemont just passed an emergency law closing some streets from 11pm to 6am to help stop street racing.

Okay, I'm not one for street racing - there are just too many factors that are not in your control, making it far too dangerous - especially to people who are not involved in it.

Nonetheless, this is crazy. If the problem is street racing, then go after the street racers - don't just close the streets. Even worse, though, is they aren't really closing the streets - no barricades, no officers making sure you have a reason to be there - no, they're just putting up signs to let you know that this section is closed, and you better not be there at night, unless you have to go to one of the businesses on the street.

That sign better be damn easy to spot. I live in Fremont, and when there is construction on 880, I may very well take back streets to get home. But I guess 'avoiding traffic' would not be considered a legitimate reason.

Atleast they don't shoot you on sight. Yet.

they should do what oakland is considering. shutting down streets doesn't mean anything! ppl will find new places. root of the problem is that ppl dont have place to play, and why don't they do what oakland is doing then.. bastards! I better not get a ticket leaving work @ late nites cuz i work right off gateway and fremont blvd.

They need to build a freakin drag strip. Problem solved. Wouldn't cost too much either. I bet they could build tons of em with the money they're making off ticketing racers. They just need to make a smooth strip of road on some empty land. Paint a couple lines. Maybe use some old tires as barriers.

They need to open up a BIG ASS parking lot somewhere and charge people like $10 - $20 to race. Like drag racing or even Friday and Saturday night autocross! Then the city could capitalize, and we'd all be happy! In the long run, I think it would make more money than the few speeding tickets they get, AND it would keep most off the streets.

My .02 cents

it would be awesome if they built a drag strip and made it so you could get year membership card. certain number of drags per year or maybe unlimited drags.

edit: but this solution is bad in a way. its saying something like "keep pushing us and youll get your way." i guess if we all just rob banks, then theyll setup a bank that we can rob whenever we want.

i know its not the same but i hope you get my point...

the main reason why they arnt going to make one is of insurance reasons. it will cost the city tons of money to insure a drag strip. atleast thats what the 10 oclock news said. could make the treck to sac town but thats only on wednsdays i believe.
peace
