Default Invidia Q300 to loud. Options??

I have a invidia q300 which I took off my 2016 wrx and put on my 2018 sti and while it was quiet on the wrx its way to loud on the sti. I am using the stock downpipe the same as I did with the wrx. I'm gonna sell the q300 and go back to stock if theres no options out there.

The Q300 is probably the quietest option out there. I'm surprised you find it loud.

The only one I can think of that might fall between stock and the Q300 is the SPT exhaust that you can get from the dealer.

Just different engines. The FA20 is very muted. I have an ETS extreme with the stock downpipe and it feels quiet compared to other cars with similar exhausts.

I guess the EJ just has a louder OEM setup.

EJ is roughly 10 DB louder. (roughly twice as loud,
You could try a perrin, otherwise SPT is your only option. HKS super turbo is also WHISPER quiet but sounds AMAZING under full throttle. I'd probably go there having heard all in person.

I've also noticed some inconsistency in Q300 volume from system to system.

This is great news! I want to upgrade from my 16 WRX to an STI....and keep my Q300. Glad to hear its louder on the STI because it is really quiet on the WRX....even with a catless Jpipe

What are people's thoughts on the Nameless 4" or 5" Axlebacks?

I turn the music off and listen to the growl coming from the OEM exhaust while running down twisty mountain roads. I like the sound of some of the aftermarket exhausts but Officer Friendly pays me no mind stock. And unless I change the exhaust upstream there's little to no power to be had for the money.

the Q300 and I suppose any aftermarket exhaust can be loud depending on rest of setup. A Q300 turboback and Invidia uppipe was not loud on my stage 2 2004 WRX. Then I added ELH, and a 2.5 hybrid engine and it was insanely loud - you also have to figure in time passage and the sound deadening becomes less effective over time.

At that point, I added a Maddad whisper and it was quiet again. Then I added a Grimmspeed uppipe with EWG and the Maddad is now loud (even when the EWG is closed). It's not as loud as the Q300, but louder than before the GS uppipe install - also factor in some passage of time again.

So, passage of time - Q300 will get louder. Also, different setups will make it louder.

Get the Maddad - it's the quietest I know of for aftermarket.

Do you know if Maddad fits onto 15+ STi?

I don't think he's designed any products beyond the GR/GVs.

Does HKS super turbo have any drone at all on EJ25? Like how the stock catback drones on idle around 1500rpm on cold start?

I do like the super turbo on the ej25 based on videos on youtube but I couldn't find any one that shows what it's like in city speeds and cruising on highway.

It IRKS me when people use phrases like "I like/ love the way it sounds" synonymously with the assessment of whether an exhaust is "loud". I like the way my Borla Hush sounds also, but with fully upgraded plumbing from the motor out and no cat(s), it's too loud overall.

So a friend of mine who owns a a shop decided to make a solution for his ride. He put a dump tube in front of his stock muffler, with a wastegate actuator controlling a butterfly at that intersection. Anything over 8lbs of boost starts to open the exhaust to the dump tube. Anything less and you can barely hear the car. It's perfect. Side note: he has the tube exiting behind the rear wheel and aimed down at the ground to make the open tube have the least broadcast.

I haven't heard a peep from them in a long time. I have the first generation maddad whisper i bought used back in 2012 and that was the last few times i've seen them active.

They make great exhausts tho. The q300 in a GR hatch can get very dronesey, the maddad whisper had zero drone, but was noticeably less rumble.

Wish they still make them :/

Great if you want to make your car even louder. Even with their largest muffler option, it's still quite loud. If you're looking for mufflers that will be more effective than stock due to exhaust elements forward of the cbe (eg. aftermarket j-pipe), the nameless ABe or CBe are not for you.

Simply put, there is NO aftermarket exhaust that isreally going to be "quiet", because they are all made with performance in mind. Performance = less restrictive = louder. The relationship between the ability to "muffle" and the ability to "flow" are permanently opposed.

Yeah, there is. I'll use my BRZ as an example. With aftermarket exhaust headers and nameless frontpipe w/ resonator and high flow cat married up to the stock CBE, it was definitely loud and not great sounding.

Then I swapped out the stock CBE for a Q300 and it definitely quieted it down from stock.

Aftermarket CBEs do nothing for performance. They neither hinder or help. They improve audio and visual only, and thus some are better muffled than stock while others are not.

You can replace the Q300 resonator with a muffler. Apparently is quieter.
