Default $1,100 2.5rs

It was around 10pm 2 evenings back. I was on my last dance for the night with craigslist before bed. After a "subaru" search turned up nothing new. I ended up trolling the "all for sale" section of Craigslist. I found that sometimes I find things that do not come up in a search or in the specific section. So, I must sort through all of the 70' China, jewelry, antiques etc.. it is usually a pain in the a$$.

I will never say that again. NEVER! Thank you subie God's for granting me this blueberry gem

After seeing that this posting was already, but only 6 hours old, quite a bit can happen in 6 hours. There were 2 things going through my mind. 1st was there's no frikken way that this car is still for sale. And 2nd I gotta text this guy.

It was a rough night. I tossed and turned into the next morning. I had some pretty crazy dreams of this car and losing it over and over. Somehow never able to get my hands on it. (Although I have the rally car. Which the shell is a 95L had an sti powerplant ) I even woke up once in the middle of the night to check my phone. By 3am I had already given up in my head. I woke up at 6am checked my phone and took a shower. I went out to the shop to start my morning, leaving my phone in the house. After bumbling around and overcriticizing some of my work for over an hour, the deep underline distraction should be obvious to the reader.

I went back inside to find a text from someone saying that the car had not been viewed by anyone yet. I sent him a text saying that I wanted it. I would not hassle him on his price of $1,500 truck and trailer ready.
He txt back and said that the car was at the local Subaru dealership. And they wanted over $5000 for the repairs. It was not something thay he could afford. I finally called him. I told him that i do not care about the problems (ran out of oil.) And that I have what this car needs. And that i need this car today. We agreed to meet around 11am at the Subaru dealership. He txt me back a little bit later and told me that he couldn't find the title. I said I do not care. He said he might not be able to meet at the dealer today.. maybe tomorrow. I told him that i wanted to make this deal today. He himhawed around for a bit a out the title and reg after his postponment. Then NOTHING! I had 2 text into him portraying my love for subies and that I need this car!

It wasn't until 2pm I get a text saying that he has the reg, in his name and he's at the dealership. I text him back saying I'll be right there please do not sell it before I get there.

It seemed to be the longest 20 minute drive of my life. All kinds of things were going through my mind. Things like; a dealer mechanic approaching him and offering him more, could turn into an auction (which I am not financially prepered for),
This being some kind of police lotto winning sting. (As I am a crazy a$$ driver on the road and have evaded many police in my time) or is this car a turd?... So many scenarios can be derived in the mind in 20 minutes.. foot to the floor!! I get a text from him saying that he is in an explorer waiting.
I knew that by this alone that he was not into cars. And that he was not hanging out drawing further attention to the car.

We got there and had a few minutes to look the car over before he noticed that we were looking at it. The first thing he says is that he is willing to drop the price since he can't find the title. I said will you take $1,100? He said f-it yeah I will. I got him to sign the lost title paperwork and verified all that I needed to.
The wife and my oldest wanted to come with, since the car is supposed to be his first (With the condition that he will only sell it to me, of course.) And I didn't want to waste $50 in the truck if the deal didn't work out. So we took the forester. And I'm glad that we did..

So we purchased her, the seller went on his way. And I was avout an hour from picking this blueberry up and taking her home. The drive home, all I thought about was what if I get back and it's gone. I know, but you never know..
So the wife and I are actually on our way to a Christmas party for her work. We figured that we had just enough time to drive the forester down, buy the car, drive home and clean up and dress up, get the truck and head back to bring blueberry to grandpa's where we can park it for the night and take his tahoe to the party.

Finally we hop in the truck ready to go. Looks like I have 1/2 tank of fuel.
We are driving through some windy country roads and I start feeling that feeling. Yes that feeling.. of a fuel pump running dry. WTF I have half a tank? Nope.. 5 miles from the fuel station I'm on the side of the highway out of fuel. In hindsight, I see this as a blessing from the Subaru gods. If I had taken the truck earlier and ran out of fuel then, I may not have this car today.

My oldest came to the rescue with a 5 gallon jug of fresh petrol. Which gave us enough to get to the fuel station and then to pick the car up and then, finally arrive to the party only a few minutes late.

But I will tell you it is kind like a dick tease of its own. Having just purchased this bad a-f car and not getting into her. But being so excited avout it, but knowing that nobody at the party even comes close to the interest that I have for subies. All I was thinking about was my new love and how far away i was from her.. and my sexy little wife in her black dress dancing. Ok enough about my sexy little blond haired blue eyed dutch babe. Here are some not so sexy pics of blueberry. She's in need of some love. Love that only a wrx can provide.

Lots of work, but for $1,100 damn..

Hells to the yeah, and it's rust free? Congrats, that was a nice score!

Similar to how I got my 07 2.5i, the guy had it towed into our dealership and the engine was toast...and he couldn't afford the repair cost. He sold it to me and I put in a newer legacy longblock. Straight luck, since my other car cracked a liner and needed a lot more than a quick repair.

Damn thats a great pickup, I would love to find one like that around me. If I were you I'd start crawling Copart for a wrecked Wrx or STI.

I like the idea of copart and I signed up, but I wasn't allowed to bid even though my limit was $1000. I tried to bid on several different cars but they wanted $200 for a membership to bid on a v8 sti for $3k.. I do not like buying something that I can not look at. I have an ad on my local cl for subies wanted. I've been offered sti setups in the past. But some of these guys want a fortune and I have declined. I'm looking for something broken. Someone who has a cracked block and thinks it's worthless. Or something like that.. In time..

Back to the now. I bought an 01 forester that came with 2 engines. Both ej251 This seemed like a great deal. figuring that the engine that was in the trunk probably had a blown head gasket, I decided to pull it apart. I found that all ports on both cylinder heads held great vacuum. I pulled everything apart and did a valve lap, seals and resurfaced. (They are now for sale for $500 shipped) anyways, as I pulled the heads I found that cylinder 3 was full of water and rusty.. After an hour of trying to get the crank and pistons to move, I gave up on it thinking it was toast. Plus I really didn't have the motivation since I had no need for the block.. then... so I thought. Luckily, it was only out in the rain for a few days. Maybe a couple of weeks.. I pulled it back into the shop. Took me 4 hours to get it apart. I honed the cylinders and was able to move the pistons about 1/4" at a time. Until they ligned up with the pin holes. After I got it apart, I noticed that it has 3 bent rods.
The cylinders may clean up, but if not we can bore them.
This engine is going to be part of the stock replacement for blueberry, for now. I have fresh heads if needed. It ran out of oil. But only for a little while. It still cranks, runs. It just has a screetching sound. Kinda like a chaa chaa chaa. I had an accord a long time ago that I ran out of oil. It had a similar sound. So I put some prolong in it. It took avout an hour of driving but slowly went away. It did increase the oil consumption slightly, but it still flew through smog. I will not be doing that with my little blueberry. She's going to get the full blown rebuild.

We have most of an interior out of a wrx that will be going in it. As This car is kinda a wreck inside.
You can bet your ass thay I'm going to put at least an ej20k in this baby some day soon.. maybe a v8 sti. What ever pops when I have the funds..

I'm going to pull blueberry off of the trailer tomorrow and winch her into the garage..

But for now, I got to go pull the ej22 out of a gf4. This baby is consuming avout 1 qt of oil per hour. Runs like a dream otherwise. Thanks guys!

Yes, stoked for sure! Lots of work though. I'm hoping I can do that $40k worth of work for under $5k. That's a sensible budget for us. $that trickles in.
No rust, other than at the drivers door end dent. No fender rust.
No underbody rust. Passenger quarter panel bottom needs to be pulled and worked. I received a text from the guy saying that he has a hood, skirts, and some other parts that he's going to give me (that passed from the previous owner to him.) This just gets better and better.

Yeah that interior does look trashed! That steering wheel is in a sad state.

An EJ257 in her would be awesome if you can grab one, absolutely!

My first Subaru was '98 RS. I sold it for $2000 running and driving but it literally didn't have a straight panel on it:

UEL headers and an exhaust and keep it naturally aspirated! This is the only Impreza you can get away with doing it to. As much as I like my WRX, The RS sounded so clean.

Similar to how I got my 03 2.5 ts, got it for 1600, it needed a full motor rebuild though. The interior is minty, and itís been through a hail storm

Here and gone. Unicorn...

..that rs is in a poor state.. how long ago did you sell it Sean? Do you know what happened to it? I'd love to hear that someone fixed it..

Yeah blueberry looks like a pine cone or 2 dropped on her. Once on the sunroof and once on the hood. It's not bad. We have a few methods of dent removal.. But first, we have to get the motor out and see what we're up against. While cleaning the car out, we found some treats.

With everything going on in the garage, she is kinda butting her way in. But we decided to get her off of the trailer and take some pics.. As you can see, she does have some mods. Looks like a Dc intake and an aftermarket set of headers. I imagine that they're smog legal since it just passed 3 months ago.. got to love the Lexus floor mat!
