Default Poll: Shoulld All Posters To This Forum Be Obliged To Post Uncorrected Dyno Results ?

I believe it is now firmly established that SAE results on turbocharged cars are at best meaningless and at worst distortive.Yet most posts in this forum continue to show corrected results.
I know that in general dyno results are generally not a useful indicator (different dynos, conditions etc) but at least we could remove one variable from the equation.

What do you think ?

IMPORTANT NOTE: A vote for "yes" does not mean that corrected results should not be posted, as long as uncorrected are also shown.

well if you post uncorrected numbers you'll put down different numbers in the summer and the winter. With it being corrected your numbers will be closer no matter what the temp is outside. I vote for both corrected and uncorrected numbers so we see what the difference is

That is debatable because people know that numbers will be lower in hotter weather. Let them post details of the conditions with the uncorrected numbers. SAE correction distorts turbocharged results, it is as simple as that.In any event, the poll does not preclude both types of numbers, as long as uncorrected numbers are shown.

People can just fake their SAE numbers at the shop. Just say that it is 110 degrees out when it is the middle of winter and it will look better SAE. But there are too many places that cheat the dyno anyways.

My feeling is who really cares?????? I doesnt matter whether your car puts down 300hp or 400hp. It matters that it is tuned well and you enjoy it. Plain and simple. All dyno numbers are is pissing contests. I dont participate in those.

No because it implies that dyno numbers are comparable.

No, because the graph you get is determined by your tuner. Most of the time they will give you what they give you. Most tuners work on more than Subaru's and don't care if some guy named macaws on the interweb wants it a certain way.

SAE correction is for un-modified, normally aspirated engines. It is based on 85% volumetric efficiency. Yet a race engine can actually be over 100%, and our twin cam, 4 valve turbo engines are 92% + VE.

Modified engines gain much less hp in cold conditions (and loose less in hot),..and forced induction engines gain even less. (So you should race that Vette when it's hot out,..if he's smart he'll want to race you when it's cold).

Modded & forced induction engines might only gain 30% or so of what a stock NA engine does in cold conditions. (By cold I mean a "Density Altitude" of less than 0 feet above sea-level. SAE is actually 77 F, 29.23 baro, and 0% humidity.) So if you have a baro of 30.3 and it's 35F out,..you're probably "below sea-level") in terms of DA.

So yes the varying conditions will vary the hp outputs of cars,...but only about 1/3 as much as SAE does. So in actuality,..the uncorrected numbers will be MORE acurate for our cars,..not less.

Dynos need to have a full SAE, a 55% SAE and a 30% SAE setting,....for use with the various types of engines.

Yeah, you shouldnt take dyno numbers too seriously. I dont think there are 2 dynos in this world that read the exact same every time. Everyone knows dynos are meant to show gains after modifications, given you have a baseline prior to installing them and everything is done on the same dyno. I think it's also nice to see the torque line, it gives a great indication on how the car drives on the road. This is why I dont mind seeing just a dyno chart posted unlike other members.

Beyond that, I think you're simply looking into dyno plots way too much. They arnt made for bragging rights, timeslips are.

For those who argue that the whole issue is irrelevant because dyno numbers are not proof of anything let me say this:

First, I think I recognised this in my first post.

Second, in spite of all the complaints about what dyno results prove and requests for time slips, everyone from tuners (good and bad) to newbies to gurus post dyno results on this forum. The very description of the forum calls for the NASIOC community to post dyno results on this forum.

Third, many results come from only a few well known shop dynos and can be compared.

Fourth, lets at least eliminate a known distorting factor. If some tuners want to rig the results so be it. Some won't and the baddies might just get caught out.

Post something constructive or at least don't vote if you think the topic is irrelevant.

The title of this post should just read:

"AL post YOUR uncorrected dyno results"

You know if you,or anyone else on this forum had a car that even came close to that power level,you/they would wallpaper that dyno sheet all over the place...

On the other hand, maybe your just sick and tired of watching all the Al haters post in the forum...

My vote is NO.

?????
What are you on about ?
As I read Al's posts the screenshots all say "uncorrected".

People are voting "no" without understanding the point of this thread. You may not agree with the idea but at least try to understand it and only vote if you think it is useful.

who cares what the dyno says?...its just a number that TRIES to make a correlation with a standard which we all know to vary greatly. What would be better would be to show a know factory baseline in comparison with the recent dyno test if people really wanted to "prove" their power with a dyno graph.

Just my $0.02,
Micah

I am proud of my dyno results, however if it goes to the track this weekend and doesn't run a good number I could care less! I know how much I picked up hp and tq wise over stock and that means a lot too.

The best way to post dyno numbers is with a before and after...

There are so many variables that can be thrown in that the only thing that matters in the end is the change that was made...

I have had my car on various dynos, and the only thing I really care about is what area needs improved on...

If you want "Accurate Dyno Numbers" we would have to pull our engines and have them all dyno'd on the exact same engine dyno, in a controlled enviroment...

People can say they want corrected, uncorrected, SAE, whatever...
It really doesn't matter in the end...

All numbers that a chassis dyno spits out are corrected in some way, even the uncorrected ones....

Who cares. Interpret the dyno numbers as you wish. The variance from dyno to dyno independantly makes the numbers fruitless without a timeslip to prove its worth.

F dyno numbers... Unless you are posting a dierct before and after, they are meaningless. Even then all they are good for is comparison of your mods or tunes.
Some dynos in sae/uncorrected/std will still read high.. You never know what is what.
Time Slips and MPH..

OK- to all the guys who say "who cares" ? How many of you have posted your own dyno numbers at one time or another or at least commented on other numbers.

C'mon own up--- you know who you are.
