Default New Biturbo V8 Reportedly Gives Lexus LC F 621 HP

Quote:

New rumors percolating out of Japan provide fresh info about the Lexus LC F’s possible specs, and the numbers sound tantalizing. The classic recipe of more power and less weight would make the brand’s range-topping coupe into an immediate competitor for the forthcoming BMW M8.

Japan’s Lawrence Motorcycle X Car posted an interview from an unnamed Lexus insider originally from the country’s Holiday Auto magazine. The anonymous source reiterated earlier reports that the LC F would use a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 making 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts). The company's goal is allegedly to create a coupe with a boost in performance but doesn't sacrifice the current model's luxury.

The insider also says that Lexus would use carbon-fiber reinforced polymer as a weight saving measure on the LC F. The company wants the vehicle to lose around seven percent of its mass, which would put the F variant at 3,980 pounds (1,778 kilograms).

Customers would pay quite a premium for these improvements. According to the anonymous source, Lexus expect LC F to cost around 20 million yen ($176,200 at current exchange rates). While pricing comparisons between markets are always tricky, for a rough equivalent of the model’s competitors, keep in mind that the Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe goes for $165,745 after destination in the United States.

Lexus knows that such an expensive coupe would be a niche vehicle. According to the insider, the company would engineer the LC F so that production could take place on the same assembly line as the standard model.

Lexus registered for the trademark on the LC F moniker in February. Rumors suggested the possibility of the coupe debuting at the Tokyo Motor Show in November, but it wasn’t there.

Japanese magazine Holiday Auto is running an interview with a purported Lexus insider, who has much to say about the much–rumored LC F high-performance coupe.

First off, the insider claims the LC F will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine with 630ps, which converts to 621 horsepower. This is in line with a earlier report from Best Car, and could be a repackaged rumor.

However, the insider doesn’t stop there — they also claim that Lexus will reduce the weight of the LC F by 7% through the additional use of CFRP, and that the Japanese price will be over 20 million yen, or $176,000 USD. As a comparison, the LC 500 costs 13 million yen ($115,000 USD) in Japan.
The insider goes even further with talk of manufacturing, claiming the LC F will be alongside the standard LC and will not require its own dedicated line. On the topic of a release date, the insider says that final testing will start in Fall 2018, with the LC F reaching dealerships some time in 2019.
Who can say if this all true? Adding specifics like weight reduction and probable pricing brings some credibility, but it’s also easy enough to falsify.

REally, thats cool..

To me I have never seen it as floating.. It just looks unfinished and added complexity with no purpose. I would call it overstyled.

I hoped when they used the current F marque engine and slapped it in a numbered car that we'd see a real F marque offering with a TTV8. Here's to hoping they get around to shoving that into an IS so I can buy a new IS-F in a few years. Would be a real shame if the lower model lines go with a TTV6 for the real F marque trims.

... "in the bud" actually. Gardening expression. Hopefully I'm not too annoying, but it's so rare I get share my useless life experiences. Any references to Cliff (from Cheers) thrown in my direction will be accepted as well as deserved.

^Right - that motor opens the door to new new Supra rumors. If not the whole car, at least the motor.

No, the LC will be what everyone remembers the Supra being, the actual Supra will be what it actually was

Just to be clear, cuz it could be interpreted another way, I like the current LC styling but wish it had more power. The F model fixes that issue. So I like errything about the F.

A top-model GT bruiser isn't exactly my style (nor within my means), but damn do I dig it.

I also like the LC, but IMO Lexus fizzed the launch of the LC. They should have waited another year and dropped this bomb. Instead they managed to associate the LC with the slumping RC that is already brow beaten in its own segment by much heavier hitters. Heavier not heavier.

Default Lexus LC Race Car to Debut New Twin-Turbo V-8 Destined for 'Future Road Cars'

Quote:
Lexus LC Race Car to Debut New Twin-Turbo V-8 Destined for 'Future Road Cars'

Goodbye, naturally aspirated V-8.

Toyota Gazoo Racing

Toyota will return to the unforgettable 24 Hours of Nürburgring for the 14th consecutive year this next May with its Lexus LC grand tourer. This will be the brand's third 'Ring outing, but the LC will have an unfamiliar engine under the hood this time around. Out will be its naturally aspirated V-8; and in will be a new, twin-turbo unit.

Lexus hopes that this engine (whose displacement and power haven't been specified) and a series of other upgrades will improve both the pace and reliability of its LC race cars, which have spent race-ruining hours in the pits these past two years. More importantly, of course, Lexus plans to test the engine rigorously before it offers it in a road car, as the automaker promises that the V-8 is "destined for use on future road cars such as sports cars."

While it hasn't identified which products will be given the new engine, it seems inevitable that its first application will be the LC, given how its compatibility with the chassis has already been proven by its planned use in an LC race car. The replacement by the twin-turbo unit feels like an omen of what's to happen to the LC 500's delightful, naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8, whose long-term viability has been in question since the model's launch in 2017.

We've reached out to Lexus regarding the future of the naturally aspirated LC 500, and will update when we receive a statement. Regardless of whether the five-liter will go the way of the Dodo by the new year, we'd urge anyone on the fence about which six-figure car to buy to consider the LC 500. Looks like those alone could make the LC 500 a future classic, and with how good the LC drives and sounds, it might be advisable to pick one up sooner rather than later. Your only real conundrum will be choosing between the hardtop and the equally gorgeous convertible.
