Got a chance to hit the new irons today ... I canít believe how different they feel compared to the ones they replaced. The M6s are the new version of the M4s and they sound and feel like completely different clubs. If possible they feel even more forgiving. I like them a lot ... donít know how it will translate to my score, but feel is 90% of the game sometimes.

If you can put the ball closer to where you want I think you're doing ok.

Seemed excessive, but Iím not going to complain. Only issue was that the shaft I got fitted for was backordered and probably wouldnít be available until August. I didnít care ... my clubs were fine and the borrowed 8 iron was working well for me.

Pro shop sent me an email this morning saying there was a package for me. Was a little surprised ... went in and Taylormade sent me a brand new set of M6 Irons with the exact same specs I was fitted for including the shafts that were supposed to be unavailable until August ... only difference were the grips which I actually like more.

So I basically got a brand new set of upgraded irons and they let me keep my old set (which I want to give my brother in law who is using a $200 set of clubs he bought 10 years ago) ... they really went above and beyond all reasonable expectations. I think they may have made a new life time customer out of me.
Whoa thatís awesome! Iíve had to have my M2 3 wood replaced as the face began caving in. They offered to replace it with a 2017 M2 (I had the 2016 M2) but I specifically requested a 2016 head as I like the feel more. There werenít many left as this was late in 2017 but they found me one and got it to me. Great service!

I played the executive course again today. The fiance dropped me off and then went shopping but not before she bought me 3 month membership for my birthday. Course is nice since it's part of a larger course and the exec membership gets me $11 weekend after noon green fee w/a free beer voucher. A few forgettable holes but mostly good short game play for my level and had a blast. Getting the hang of not topping and weight transfer but so much practice needed.

Random guy from our group and weather/conditions pic of new bag w/head covers. $30 5 wood was a good purchase to fill out the set. Crushed my second attempt straight at the pin with it but came up short in the water at around 190-200 yds.

$30 for this thing and it's in very good shape.

I am headed to play in my first ever individual stroke play tournament. I think gross and net top 3 win $. There are 60 players ranging from a +.8 to 23 handicap and I am a 12.3. Should be interesting and hopefully fun.

Good luck!

Played 9 with the new irons yesterday and while I like the clubs, the grips they fit them with are not for me. They have a weird shape where they are really thick at the top and taper down significantly as you get the the bottom. The top is also a soft, squishy material while it gets harder toward the bottom. My top hand just can’t find a hold on the club that stays in place during the swing. With my previous set I had a very small fade with my irons ... with his set, everything hooks left because the face is extra closed at impact. It’s frustrating, but I’ll have to get the irons re-gripped. I can’t see anyway I can get used to these ... the tops are just way to big for my hands and the softness is really off putting

Aren’t first world problems the best?

On the plus side, I’ve really grown into my Epic Flash driver ... I missed one fairway (and even that was only by a couple of yards) and I’m getting really nice distance. Best drive of the day was in the 260 range ... and that’s really something for me (the others weren’t much shorter). Hell ... I’m happy with 230 if it’s straight ... the distance is just a major bonus

What a **** show that was!

Opened up triple, triple, bogey, threw in another double or 2 later and shot 49 on the back (started on back 9). I played much better on the front and was +1 through 6. Then missed a short putt on 7 for par (one of 3-4 misses under 4 feet), then a big fat quad 8 with an unplayable lie AND a 4 putt on the 8th hole. Parred the last and shot 90. Just terrible. I drove the ball great but everything else was awful, especially putting. Had fun though!

Also what the hell is Koepka doing!?

Koepka showed a bit of nerves, but everyone else was just too far away to do anything.

I played Sunday morning, and by the 8th hole the winds were gusting to 40mph. I was already hitting the ball like complete crap, so that + the winds meant I shot a terrible 90 with NO PARS (or better). To sum it up the 18th hole is a medium length uphill par 4, but Sunday it was dead into the wind. I crushed a perfect drive that started in the middle of the fairway with a little draw that would have ended up left-center and long. Well, the wind gusted hard right when it got in the air so the ball basically stopped going forward, then took a straight left turn and almost went into a native area 40 yards left of where it should have ended up. And on top of that it lost so much distance because of the wind that I don't think it went over 200 yards and I had a 3 wood into the green (that I usually hit 8-9 iron into.) Yeah, I bogeyed that one

I think I'm gonna go hit the range at lunch just to prove to myself that I can't possibly hit it that bad 2 days in a row.

The rain moved out and the skies cleared up so I went to the range yesterday. I'm looking forward to playing this course next week on my birthday. It's a free round, but looking to play as well as I can. The main thing I am worried about is spending time searching for tee shots that get away from me and holding up a group.

I feel like I am working out the kinks on my swing little by little and keep going back to the basics and looking at swing videos so I don't get too overwhelmed. I ordered a phone clip and some alignment sticks to record my swing and see what I am doing right or wrong. Chipping and putting continue to improve and I'm still having fun. My brother is like "I can't wait until you call me and are cursing this game". I know what he's saying but hope to keep it fun.

Went to the range after work yesterday before the skies opened up on us. 3rd time going, working on adjusting my swing a little to compensate for a lower back injury. Felt pretty good with taking a nice easy swing with my wedges/short irons. Moved up to my 3H and 3W and well........... it'll take some time to work on getting adjusted to the altered swing.

But the biggest thing I will take away from it is that I feel fantastic right now. Lower back is feeling solid this morning, no hurting aches/pains, I'm standing/sitting without any issues (knock on wood).

Countdown to playing my first round of the season this Friday....

Oh and where is KC with his obligatory 'this is what I did this past weekend' post????

You know where I was today. I know you heard me at least.

Played some Long Island courses this weekend. Island End Friday, Cherry Creek Golf Links Saturday morning, The Woods at Cherry Creek Saturday afternoon (Across the street) and Montauk on Monday.

I also went to the PGA Championship Sunday. You all know how that went from seeing it on TV. Couple notable things over the weekend...

- It was fun seeing Rory reach 4 in 2, he missed the eagle by inches and had a tap in bird. (We were there already for a handful of groupings, not following anyone in particular).

- Rory comes off 9, tees off 10 with Tony. Tony starts walking down 10, no Rory. He's in the players bathroom there. Someone in the crowd shouts "Hey Rory! What's taking so long? Dropping a deuce?" He finishes up, comes out, "Rory! Feel lighter now?"

- **** BPB Food layout. It sucked. You could only get food by the 1st/18th holes, or 9th. Nothing in the middle. If you're not familiar with BPB, that's a LONG WAY, two opposite corners of the course. The wait for food by 9/10 was about an hour in line. (If they had any when you got there, you kinda just got the couple things that were available randomly).

- I couldn't break 90 this weekend. Just had a problem driving the ball. Putting was great, (almost) everything else, but most of my 2nd shots were not from the fairway. And the times I found the fairway, I couldn't get to the green in regulation.

- Used one ball for the 1st 60 of 72 holes played this weekend. I proceeded to lose 8 total in the last 12 holes. It's been a while since I shot over 100. I did it at Montauk State Park.

- Speaking of Montauk, great course. Great condition and layout. PITA to get to and from unless you're nearby. And the experience we had with the people there was the clincher, never going back and will never recommend playing there. They were typical state employees. (It's a state park). The only nice person was the woman in the ProShop. Everyone else? Institutionalized employment. And it showed.

1) There was a bag drop, but no attendant booth, no sign, no attendant, no obvious sign of anyone would take bags. So we left them in the car and figured we'd take carts to the car to get them. Got the carts, drove toward the cars, saw "no carts beyond this point" and were like... wtf. The bags are in the cars about 400 yds away from here. Still no one around. We walk out to the car to get our stuff. There's someone there in a cart "oh, so we can take carts out here?" "Nope. You can't." That's it. So we start unloading and that guy says "why didn't you leave them at the bag drop, (groan) I'll take them." Guy was an employee of the course! When he brings the bags out, he puts a single bag on 6 different carts. (Keep this in mind).

2) The guys weren't familiar with how paying at a NY parks golf course worked. I had to explain about paying greens fees at the park office but anything else is at the proshop. It's weird, but that's the way it is. So we pay, then go pay separately for carts and balls. Get tokens and slip for carts (need 4 for 6 people as 2 threesomes). Go out to starter, hand slip. "This is only for three of you, where's the other slip? There's supposed to be two." "That's all she gave us for us 6." "No, where's the other slip, there's supposed to be two. I'll call her... wait, just go get the other slip (to me)." I gave him the WTF not my problem look, but I turn around and go walking back. Go in and the woman goes "oh, I just wrote the wrong number. Writes over the number that was there with another one, and hands be back the slip. "Have him call me if theres any issue, you're all set." I go out, give it back to him, "where's the other slip? Oh, wait... I see what she did here. Ok." A few moments later... wait, I see 6 bags on 6 cars, you're not taking 6 carts." I turn to him and let him know that the bag guy did that, not us. "Well, you can't take 6 carts you're going to have to join up." I felt like just saying "well no **** sherlock."

3) Theres more, but I'm tired and going to bed.

It's the best feeling when you figure something out with the help of tutorials.

I started slicing the ball at the range on Sunday and had to figure out what I was doing wrong today. I had too much lead hand grip and not enough trail hand grip. My lead hand was getting kind of sore as a result too.

My swing needs some slowing down but consistency and distance were really good with a quick tempo. Every club from 5 wood down to P wedge felt right and were more straight minus a few swings that I rushed. I was pitching 50 yards w a 1/2 swing to a range green and was being pretty accurate. I was even able to switch targets and clubs and be closer to the fringe which was super fun. I increased the trail hand grip for chipping and putting with similar improvements.

Rick Shiels' swing videos have helped me so much. If you have any beginner friends like me, I recommend they check out his channel. I'm loving my local range and am more confident to play the course next week.

Keep up the work! Glad to hear it's working...

And to KC's trip, I have strong feelings for NYC and the surrounding areas and most of the people, and they're definitely not of the good variety

The Ryder Cup at BPB is gonna make the NY "fans" a caricature of themselves, with how big of buttholes they're gonna be. It's gonna be an absolute disaster

Pulled the trigger on the G410 driver with Tensei CK Orange 60 shaft, but it's backordered until early June.

I also put a Tensei CK Blue 80 in my hybrid and I'm loving it. Spin numbers are almost perfect now.

Shot an 88 on Sunday at my club, which is a good score for me. I had two triples from my driver (and finished triple, double, bogey) so there's still room for improvement there but short game and putting was way better. I'm feeling good going into the summer and still hoping to break 80 somewhere this year.

In general, the behaviour of crowds at any event is getting pretty obnoxious. The constant competition of who can yell the dumbest thing as soon as club touches ball (no matter what the context is) has become the most annoying aspect of watching golf. The competing GET IN THE HOLE (on the tee box of a 570 yard par 5) and BABABOOIE!!!! is so stupid that it ruins most moments. You can often see the frustration on the players faces (and caddies on the verge of punching someone) and it really adds nothing to the game.

Iím all for a fun time and a crowd thatís into it and I in no way think we need to go back to the golf claps of the 60s ... but weíve swung so far in the opposite direction that itís way worse than it has any business being.

The Ryder Cup is its own animal ... I like the format and the inherent informal vibe of the event, but honestly itís getting out of control. Weíre a year or two away from brawls in the crowd and we really should be above that ... but the stupidity always overpowers logic.

Somewhere between Augusta level behavior and BPB/Waste Management Open behavior would be nice.

So like normal people/behavior?

Yeah, Augusta/The Masters is it's own machine, and I very much like it for how everything is handled, but it would be too much to try to apply that to all tournaments. I just wish the tour/specific events would kick out people who scream stupid things at inappropriate times, but I don't think that's happening anytime soon. I don't want golf to swing back to being too stuffy, but something in the middle would be nice.

Jard - I have a Tensei CK Pro Orange 60g for sale, but it has a Callaway adapter, plays to 45", and is TX flex. Doubt you'd be interested but just putting it out there.

So basically we need the crowd from Ohio? The Memorial tournament typically seems to be that middle ground. Not a ton of yelling but definitely less stuffy than Augusta. The newer grandstand area around 14 and 16 is like a grown up, more mature, version of 16/17 at WMO.

I don't follow the pro events, but turned on the PGA Championship and thought it was somewhere in Ireland/Scotland or England. I thought there were golf hooligans screaming and just being rowdy. Then I Googled and was like New York?

That's pretty accurate...the only knock is the new grandstands definitely have a very "corporate" feel to it (and the concession prices to match).

The Memorial is next week, so I'm curious to 2 things:
1.) How many rain/lightning/hail storm/tornado delays we'll get
2.) How am I gonna score free tickets this year, and what day/s will I go?

Thanks, but it's a stock shaft in the G410 so it's not like I'm paying more to get it. I'm a regular old S flex anyway...

Finally got some golf scheduled. Playing 18 with my FIL Sunday at a new course for us both (Shandin Hills) and another 18 on Monday with my buddies at one of our favorite public courses San Dimas Canyon. Hope I don't hack it up too bad.

Ah. My CK Pro version is a completely different shaft than the CK version yours will have...if you're fit into that one, mine would be completely wrong for you, anyhow eventually I'm gonna sell this thing
