If you cut down those scenes from the episodes, I think they will feel even more rushed.

Anyway we want to slice it, it comes down to them rushing it by compacting things down to 6 episodes (and 7 from last season). I'm not thrilled with the ending/story they decided on, but the real insult is rushing everything to fit the producers' own real-life timeline. If they didn't want to commit to more episodes, I wish they had passed the work to others - HBO appeared willing to pay $$ for more episodes.

It's disappointing and frustrating to leave this great series with such a bad taste in ones mouth.

The bottom line for me after watching the finale is that I'm OK with almost everything that happened, but disappointed in how it happened and how rushed it all was. I actually like Bran being king. It makes sense, a neutral person who doesn't have a following but knows all of history, so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. If Jon was king, then the Ironborn, Unsullied, and Dothraki would team up and start war with the rest. There would be no "resolution" that way. But yea it was rushed.

If I was HBO/D&D I would have made the past 2 seasons full (10 episodes not sure why people keep saying 8..). Have season 7 end with the white walker/Night King battle. Then spend the last season building up the fight with Cersei and final battle. It would have given time for character development and at the same time not crammed the two most important battles in 6 episodes. Seriously, what did D&D have going on that is so much more important than I don't know...the most popular TV show right now?!? I don't understand why they weaseled out of making full seasons. This decision alone ruined the pace and made the ending sloppy. Add the almost two year wait in between as well.

GRRM writes:

Quote:
“How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different? Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes,” Martin wrote.

In his post, Martin said that the differences between television and literature will certainly come in to play. “I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them.”

But the main thing Martin wants fans to know is that the question of which version will contain the correct ending isn’t really important. “Book or show, which will be the ‘real’ ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have?” he said, referencing the heroine of another novel-turned-filmed-landmark, “Gone With the Wind.”

“How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet.”

I said the same thing. They should have concluded the NK battle in Season 7 and devoted all of Season 8 to wrap everything up.

I just hate what they did over the last season or so with my favorite characters.

- Tyrion who used to be the smartest guy in the room clearly was not the last two seasons.
- The turned Dany into the heel who now murders innocent women and children. Just because.
- The whole NK storyline was incredibly anticlimactic. Perhaps they are saving this for future spin offs, but come on give us something.
- Bran becoming kind.. Sigh. I get it he is the jedi like wise weirdo, but if you would have asked 1000 hardcore GoT fans who they wanted to be king/queen when the dust settled, how many would pick Bran the Broken?
- And since this was the plan all along why didn't the writers build his character and story more. Make me want to root for the guy.
Jamie Lannister.. Sigh. I just won't say it again but they spent so much time on his character and story over the past 2-3 seasons and for what? The whole tryst with Briene was for what?
-Cersie was reduced to almost nothing the final season.

I can keep going. I also agree that as limited as this season was, and as much as they had to tell, they wasted a lot of time with nonsense and characters that, in the end, had no real impact on the final story based on the direction they choose to go.

I am so dissapointed in Season 8 that I don't know if I go back and watch the whole series again, if I will just stop after season 6 or 7 and not bother to watch 8 again. Or perhaps given time it will not be as bad as it seems to me right now.

While seen through Brienne's narrative as he uses her as a vehicle to move between different internet mediums

It really needed the 10 seasons with 10 episodes each that HBO wanted.
Then they could have shown Jaime always longing for his sister despite how good life seems with Brienne and the northerners, and Dany being frustrated and slowly broken down by Westerosies that fight her every step of the way, and Bran earning the admiration of the people in some way rather than staring off into space out in the garden.

Ah well, I've basically filled in the gaps in my head, so in a couple years when something reminds me of the series I'll think of it fondly.

Oh I disagree with Bran being King. He's the 3 Eyed Raven - he should be too bloody ass busy collecting more history vs ruling. His line of "why else do you think I rolled my way to this meeting" was stupid, he should have zero interest in ruling. I understand the neutral aspect, but 3 Eyed Raven being King?

Also, when he dies, he has to pass off the role to someone else - does that person get voted in as new King/Queen as well?

Ugh, not to get started again on some of the other stupids points they decided on as well.

Regardless of his history I too cannot stand his flailing about. For me it doesn't make his reviews incorrect nor wrong - but does ruin my ability to stand watching him.

Thats perfectly OK, its his thing and he lives or dies by it

Its certainly a more entertaining delivery than Chris Stuckerman.

You cray. Jeremy Jahns is the type of "critic" who just conveys whether or not he was entertained. He can know something isn't a great piece of art, yet still be entertained more so. Like just another dude.

I love Chris Stuckmann too, but he's more into how something was filmed. More appreciative of film. Not just another dude.

Dan Murrell with Screen Junkies is somewhere between and also one of my favorite reviewers.

If he has Brandon Sanderson finish the series it wouldn't be too bad of an outcome.

I don't get watching those either. And reaction videos where they know they are on camera. Nope.
