Question Emissions Testing

I need a little help. We have a 2012 WRX with Grimmspeed downpipe and Invidia catback exhaust. We have the Cobb Stage 2 map. We tried to reset the ECU back to stock to go through the emissions testing but before we can go the required 60 miles, it throws a CEL (P0420). How do you guys with aftermarket downpipes go through emissions? Cobb is telling me to put the stock downpipe back on. Unfortunately, we don't have it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why did you try to reset it back to stock? do they check for aftermarket tunes?

you MAY get away with putting some E85 in and running your car lean. but I would not do that.

you need to put the stock downpipe back on. Find one in the classifieds somewhere. they usually sell for about $100.

or borrow one and then swap it back.

We put it back to stock because that's what Cobb told me to do. All we have in MD is the OBDII plug in method. I'm assuming with the Stage 2 map that the ECU is set to non ready mode and cannot be read. Does that make sense?

You're incorrect

if they do not plug in the sniffer in the downpipe, but only check OBD2 you don't need to do anything.

I have a catless downpipe and full rotated turbo kit with Cobb tuned and I unplugged my Accessport, and went and did emissions. passed just fine. All they did was check for emissions readiness monitors and if there were any CEL.

Absolutely true.

Fix the issue that's causing the code and you'll be fine.

So we can map it back to Stage 2 and as long as there are no CEL codes we should be good to go to emissions. Correct?

Correct

After you flash back you will want to drive it around for a couple days to get the emissions readiness monitors to be set.

you can check the status on the Accessport.

In Colorado, you can only have 1 Emissions monitor not "ready" to pass.

Ok. Thanks for all the help. I'll keep everyone posted as to what happens. We're going to map it back to Stage 2, drive it a few days, and if no CEL's, go to emissions.

Update: We went through emissions today and everything was fine. It passed. We replaced the gas cap and that seemed to fix the P0456 code that we got originally. Since switching back to the Stage 2 map there have been no CELs. Thanks everyone for all of your help. Greatly appreciated.
