Default 2008 WRX Cluster Reprogramming Issues

The cluster in my car had a bad odometer screen so I picked up a replacement one and had it sent out to get the eeprom copied from old to new in order to maintain the odometer mileage as well as the immobilizer coding.

I put the new cluster in and the car starts and drives, but I now found that the coolant temp gauge doesn't work and the opening needle sweep doesnt occur even though in the cluster options it is set to on. I also verified that the coolant temp sensor works by reading it through the obd port with a code reader.

I found another user post a few years ago describing similar issues:
"The mileage was correct and the immobilizer code matched, but the temperature gauge stopped working, the speedo and tach were inaccurate, and the needle sweep function stopped working even though it was enabled."

Is there any hope to correcting this or did I just waste my time and money breaking this new cluster?

Awfully noble of you to keep the old mileage, I wouldn't mind seeing my subie at about 100k less

Jokes aside, if everything else works and the mileage ect transferred over, perhaps the unit itself is defective in some way?
